annoying development. . . .

Well, my hair's growing fine, but it's starting to develop this annoying tendancy. . .because my hair is so curly, and because I don't comb it very often at all (due to the thickness and curlyness), it's starting sectioning itself into "locks". My mom calls them "Shirley Temple Curls" whatever that means. :) Anyways, this is kind of what I was aiming for, but the thing is, down at the scalp, I can see more of it where each section is "sectioned" off. it's kind of like how you can see your scalp when you part your hair, my hair is parting itself into these different sections, showing more scalp. I don't like it!
Anyways, just wondering if any of you other curly-headed folk had the same problem.
As Always,
That "Ball" Guy

I have the exact same thing happening in my hair. Us curly hairs have it tough when it comes to combing. I know that if I were to comb my hair when dry, as everyone suggests, I would loose way too many hairs for comfort each day and would get tons of frizz. What I've been doing is this. I comb my hair once a week. Yep, only once. And I do it while completely wet. Just take a good quality comb and get it all untangled right after you shower. Try not to concentrate on the loss. Best of luck.
i lose more hair brushing wet

my hair is so thick that, even when i pull out the hair from the brush and start clean
theres still a layer of hair thats at the bottom of the brush
maybe its because i dont lose hardly any in the shower?
i only brush it after i shower, so 2 MAYBE 3 times a week tops

I have also noticed this with my hair. I think it's normal and I actually prefer it to the "big friz show". If the hair is not in locks then it becomes all messy. To avoid friziness you WANT curly hair to form locks... My hair is REALLY thick so no scalp showing problems... but I can see how that might be annoying...
take a look...
oh and btw...

Dude, theres a saying "Curls get the Girls! and its true!
usually curly hair does 2 things, either the curls each go their own separate ways and the hair looks like a frizzy mess aka "Felicity" (no i dont watch that programme!) or it separates into locks of curls like you mentioned. The second sort are way better, healthier and more attractive since they are tidier!
Dont get freaked out by it, curls rule! Its not worth trying to get straight hippy hair wuth hair like this and why would you want to?

Tough problem for sure. I think sometimes we have to "adapt" to what our hair allows as some of the things we see as "problems" are because we desire something different which our hair-type may never be able to do. The photos looked fine to me, but then again I'm not you. It could very well be that "Dreds" might be the way to go? (Your hair almost seems to be setting-itself up in that direction.) Just a thought. Good Luck.
