Growing Out Styles #1: David Beckham

I've been getting a little frustrated by the lack of "style" to my hair whilst I'm gowing it out. Doesn't matter what you do, it still looks like you haven't had it cut for ages... inspite of any trims.
This is particularly annoying if your going out to a club, and your the only guy in the room without neatly styled hair. (That said, if I had hair like Clarko I could pull it off!) So I went looking for ways to style your hair whilst growing out, and after I recent thread about sports stars with long hair - I've concluded that David Beckham's style actually is pretty cool.
Basically you just tie the top layers in a high tail. You only need bangs to your top lip, it keeps your hair outta your face and, people start looking at you again like you are following some kinda trend, and it atleast starts a conversation. (Showing my vanity I guess.)
Best thing is my name's David too, so I never know if someone is mocking me. ;-)
If anyone else comes up with any good "growing out" styles post them, I'll try anything...

For the last four weeks the above is the only hairstyle I can have, if i part it in the middle without gel or creme Whooosh... it becomes that! If I use get its fine for an hour tops and then it becomes that!
Hence people at uni have started asking me why I always wear a hat! "Well I'm wearing one so that one day I wont have to" is usually my response... though I dont think they understand!
If you can get your hair into that Beckham style thing and you like it then congrats mate, unfortunatly my hair is obviously shorter than yours (doenst quite touch the end of my nose wet yet, and dry it sits at about my eyelid level). However have you seen Beckhams head from behind... that tiny ponytail IMO looks a bit daft, but then who looks at the back of their own head... and that is just my opinion, if you like the style then I say go for it, hell anything to get through the awkward stage has gotta be a bonus!

"people start looking at you again like you are following some kinda trend"
why do you WANT to conform like that?
you dont sound lke someone that wants long hair
not that all long hairs are doing it to go against society, or that long hair shouldnt have some style, but that comment just pisses me off
it sounds to me like your only acceptable following a trend, otherwise no one at the "club" likes you

Hair like beckham is pretty unique, - I'd hardly call it conforming as I've only seen one other person do it who's not tom cruise.
Sure I'm probably a bit vain - I acknowledge that in my post, but I don't think that stops me from really "wanting long hair."
I'm not sure their anything wrong with wanting to look "cool" or atleast wanting other people notice your appearance in a positive way.
Honestly John, whilst I'm sorry to have upset you, I'm struggling to think why any part of my post pissed you off. You cited:
:"people start looking at you again like you are following some kinda trend"
All I'm saying is people look at you and think "Oh he can be bothered about the way he looks," rather than "look at him, he couldn't give a toss." - That counts bigtime when your out looking to party, afterall you can hardly dazzle people with your wonderful personality over a 4 piece band complete with stomping drum kit!

Hey:)
I think ive mentioned this in other postings but anyway, one of the latest styles for guys is the cheesy messy garage rock look. This is quite conveient if you are trying to grow out your hair and are in the awkward stages.
I think bands like The strokes, um, The Hives, any THE bands really! (i HATE this type of music in case anyone cares)
So, you can still walk around & go to clubs without looking messy since messy hair is in fact in style!
Look in any trendy rock magazines (usually titled:"whateverband: the saviors of rock!" or something equally stupid) for some examples.
BTW i am just insulting the music of these bands, not their hair:)
now im rambling again! arrrh!
Anyway, good luck man!

Yeah - doesn't really work with my hairtype though, my hair is pretty straight, but a good option for many.
