HELP!!!
Posted by I love long hair on October 31, 2003 at 22:23:30: Previous Next
I've only been growing my hair for a little over a month now and I'm gonna go get it trimmed sometime. But I've noticed that my top is REALLY outgrowing my bottom. Is this normal, or am I gonna end up with like a reversed mullet? thanks for any and all advice!

Naw...You're okay. Unless your hair was the same length all over at the beginning, it's going to be kind of uneven. Just let it grow a while then have it trimmed so it's all the same length. It'll grow out better. Good luck..Josh

my hair started growing the exact same way.. the top and especially the front is alot longer the the sides and back... its really down to you how you want to battle it out. i personally wouldnt cut my hair shorter to even it up now as il just loose months of growth which im quite happy just to leave in place and let get longer.. when its all past shoulder length then im gonna trim it up so its even but untill then im just letting it grow uneven. you dont really notice it when its at length i would say
Relax...

A month is a little soon to tell anything conclusively...
If your begining to grow your hair you should really wait an extra 6 weeks after your normal haircut time before getting a trim. (eg: Most guys with really short styles go every 4-6 weeks that should change to 10-12 weeks.) Assuming you believe in maintenance trims which you apparently do.
And believe me, unless you are starting from a midlength style, having your top layers growing faster than your lower layers is a good thing. The top layers are always the bits we are waiting on.
Completely normal

Once it catches up it is unnoticable. The hair at the front needs to grow faster if you plan to grow it shoulder length and beyond. It has further to go to reach the back, where it will lay most of the time at that point.
Hope that made at least a little sense!

Thanks for the advice. I went today and got it evened and the split-ends were cut off. I wouldn't take the time to do the trims, but the person who cuts my hair is also a very close friend, and she told me that getting trims will help me get through the awkard stage, and I trust that she's not just saying that to stay in business. Anyway, the back looks a lot better, and not a lot of length was taken off the top. keep posting your replies!

Thats the way to get maintenance trims, just take a little...
As long as she knows your goals you'll be fine but try to go atleast 3 months between trims if you can, otherwise she'll have nothing to cut next time.
