It takes 9 months to be a long hair

If you shave your head, it will take 9 months to become a long hair. I did it in 2002. I was working and I was asked to cut my hair, so i cut it in December 2002. It was long after 9 months of growing from a shaved head. Its not that long.
Since that time, I sported standard short hair and got multiple haircuts (3 to be more precise). I used to put gel in my hair several times.
For some reason I am sick of it. I will grow it again. My last haircut was very recently, so my hair looks like the standard short haircut right now.
The difference between this time and last time is that I will grow my beard too this time. Last time I didn't have any facial hair and some people started to mistake me for a girl or call me gay. How annoying.
I sported a beard many times in recent years and I think I had a 9 months old beard once. Having a beard is very cool, because it grows very fast.
I mean, if I don't shave, in only one week I will already have a very intimidating beard. I am not going to trim my beard at all. I will let it grow fully.
I am 23 years old and my beard matured a lot in the recent years. I have much more facial hair now than when I was 18! I started having real sideburns at like 21 years old only. Now it really looks like a real beard, even if there a spot where it dont grow at all (on each side of the chin).
I don't really know why, but I used to forget the idea of long hair, but the idea made a strong return in my head recently. I will go at it again, but this time nobody will think I am a girl with my 5 centimeter (and more) beard.
I wonder if shaving often make appear more facial hair in the future. Right now I shave every day. If I miss only one day, a noticeable beard is already appearing. So I will continue to shave for a while to "prepare" my beard.
Right now my face is shaved and my hair is short. For some reason I want to wait before starting my beard. In fact I will wait until my hair start to get long.
For some people, if they don't have facial hair they still look like men with long hair. Its not my case, so the moment my hair get a bit long (in 2 months), I am letting my beard grow.

it takes -you- 9 months.. not everyones hair grows the same and not everyone has the same hair...9 months with curly hair would look no where near as long as someone with pure straight hair. so what you say is debatable

Beards rock. I trim mine once a week and keep it prety short coz, thats how I like it... plus I really hate shaving!
Good luck with the beard growth and the hair growth.... I've been growing my hair for 5 1/2 months now and I am pretty sure that in another 3 1/2 I will not be considered a long hair... I am growing from about 1.25inches so have around 4.25-4.5 inches at the moment
Re: 9 months = only 4-1/2" usually. nt

on your hair type (straight, curly, etc), how fast your hair grows, and what you perceive as long. Long hair means many different things to different people.

I guess its a matter of perspective - I've been growing for 10 months from about 1.5 inches and I now have a little over 6.5" inches that only just beats the "Normal" growth rate of 1/2" a month, (though I've had a few trims which have probably cost me about 3/4")
I certainly don't consider myself a longhair as my hair just reaches to mid ear from on top and just below my nose at the bangs.
Like what has already been said, if you have curly hair you can go for years before it appears long. Then again I know people like yourself who can grow 9" in 9 months, and I hate you!!!!! ;-)
[Well.. Envy would be a better word...lol]

I'm coming up on two years' growth. My hair is below my chin in the front and sides, and a few inches past my shoulders in the back. In my opinion, I HAVE longer hair than the average man, but by no means do I condider myself to BE a "longhair."
With regard to your position that facial hair is the major determinant of gender cues, I must disagree. I don't currently have facial hair, nor have I grown anything longer than a week since beginning to grow my hair. I'm not mistaken for a woman because I walk like a man, and I think my body is very clearly that of a man, with broader shoulders and a v-shaped back. I think these are much stronger gender cues than lack of facial hair since most of the general American population, regardless of hair length, is clean-shaven.

I agree - Most guys will never be mistaken for women even with long hair - There's this thing about men and women... we just look different regardless...

Well, some people have different definition of what is long hair. For me it was long, altough for some of you it could be considered short. I don't think I grow faster than the norm. I consider it long because I was told to cut my hair at my job. By the way, I have a picture taken from this era... I could put it online.

I don't have any facial hairs and I had never ever been mistaken for a girl. I am sure this will never happen as I just don't look
like a girl at all. I'm 6ft4 and have sholder length hair.
Some guys really look like girls and I think the only solution
for them is to indeed grow a beard (i don't really like beards) and
always tie their hair in a ponytail.
