Advice for Coloured Hair

Hi Guys, I need some help here. I've been growing out my hair for 16 months with only 2 VERY minor trims (I think the cut hair blew away before it hit the floor). All this time my hair has been coloured a medium-dark brown (N4). I keep it in excellent condition, it is very shiny and the sun has given it some nice reddish hilights. My question is, should I keep on colouring, or let it grow out natural. I am aiming for waist length (think Demi Moore now...lol). Does anybody out there have very long hair that they have been colouring? Let me know what happens to the condition. Thanks a lot. I only recently found this board and find it a great wealth of information. I will post some progress pics soon! p.s. I have grown my full beard out natural and it is about 80% grey, I just don't know if I can do that on my head.

I think you'll find alot of people here will tell you to grow it out natural. It's all about what YOU want because everybody's got an opinion. One thing to consider though is that coloring takes a commitment just like growing it does. I've been lazy for the past 3 months and haven't had any color, but the roots and a good bit of my hairline are gray now, which looks rediculous (refer to my website link below and you'll see). To equal it out, I'd have to cut it and start all over again without the color. So I need to get some color soon.

I've been coloring mine for the past 6-7 years at least and my hair is still the same texture as it was before...I don't believe the coloring has affected it. Always have a professional do it for you...don't trust the bottled stuff. The shampoo and conditioner I use are specially formulated for colored hair. They're called Marine Color Protection Shampoo and Color Protection Conditioner and are available at most salons and beauty supply stores. It costs a little more but it's good stuff. Here's the link: http://www.backtobasics.com/productline/cc_marine.htm
I shampoo with it once every 2-3 days and condition and rinse daily.
Hope this helps you out. Good luck and take care,
Brett
