G'day all,
I noticed today that there are some flakes in my hair! ANything I can do to prevent it? I hear dandruff shampoos are usually too harsh. Could it be caused by too much washing or not enough? Cheers!

actually, from what i've been told, dandruff is usually caused by a dry scalp, and dandruff shampoos are mostly hydrating to correct that problem.
could be wrong, though, so dont quote me on that. ^_^;;

Dandritis is actually a condition that occurs with an excess of a certain fungus in the scalp. Dandruff shampoos contain some sort of chemical formulated to kill some of this fungus. A regular bar of strong soap, such as Dial, should also work.

Or use Nizarol shampoo. It used to be prescription only. It controls the fungus, too.

Try using T/Gel shampoo. This stuff does a very good job in cleaning the scalp and preventing Dandruff from forming.
It really depends on the cause....

Peter,
In general, what people generically call "dandruff" is a symptom, and not the actual condition. What you have is some manner of skin condition. The treatment depends on what you have. Trying to treat your scalp for a minor dermatitis condition when what is causing your dandruff is (for example) Eczema, will do you no good.
I suggest you spend some time finding out exactly what is the cause of the dandruff (e.g. Psoriasis, Seborrhea, Topic Dermatitis, Eczema). There are a number of web sites out there that describe skin conditions (e.g. www.medicinenet.com). Once you know which particular one you have, you can then select the effective treatment.

I think not anything in the hair that looks like flakes is dandruff.
If I do not rinse out the shampoo completely with water the next day or days weird flakes occur that sometimes stick the hair together in knots.
About dandruff I hear it is caused by microorganism (fungus attack). One stuff against dandruff is Ketoconazol (recommended by a dermatologist).
