I saw the midnight show last night and let me just say - WOW. Unfortunately I never read the books, but this movie wasn't a let down in any way. Tied up all the loose ends very nicely and there were very few special effects that looked at all fake-y. I give it a 9 out of 10 IMHO.

Haven't seen it yet. Will see it shortly. Got the DVDs for the last
two. The film will be the best film of the year at oscar time.
You heard it here first.
Also next year they will have a sequel called the Hobbit.
And the film will have plenty of long hairs>

You have that backwards, The Lord of the Rings is the sequel to The Hobbit, and a new version won't be made for a while. Peter Jackson's next project is a King Kong remake for Universal and there's the added problem of New Line having the right to make a film based on the Hobbit while United Artists/MGM has the right to distribute that film. Since New Line won't make a film it can't distribute and UA/MGM won't distribute a film it can't make, it will be some time before a live action version of The Hobbit reaches theaters.

the hobbit won't be made for a couple of years. Peter jackson would like to do it but there is legal stuff that is being taken care of plus the next 2 years are focused on making the remake of king kong.

Got to see it the day before thanks to a (growing)longhair friend that works at the local movie theater. Excellent movie. Left out less than the other movies did, and flowed quite nicely.

Just amazing - fantastic. Again all men had long hair. The story was just perfect this time. It matched the book closer and was definitely a better movie than Two Towers and on par with Fellowship.

I saw it this morning and thought it was incredible. There were so many beautiful scenes, and after three years I couldn't help sharing the delight of the characters after it had all ended.
Now it's time to wait for that extended edition - and I finally feel free to read the story again.

I seen it at midnight wed morning it was crazy. People dressed up and the movie was just kick ass overall especially when legolas takes down that giant elephant. I was so excited i never went to bed that night and just went into work. Which now i know i can stay awake for 38 hours straight but it isnt fun.

Absolutely wonderful! I couldn't go midnight because I had finals the next day, but I do know some people the went and got back at 4 in the morning and then took their finals. I just went the next day although I did still dress up! They were only a few fairly minor mistakes although the contast presence of Arwen through the films has kind of pissed me off...oh well. I guess they had their reasons...
