A MULLET POLE
Posted by Justin on December 17, 2003 at 21:01:51: Previous Next
Yes, I know. There is either a strong like or dislike of this style among Long Hairs, Short Hairs and everything else in-between. I myself do not sport a Mullet...........but I have seen several that (in my opinion) are killers! This I believe is due to the mannor in which it is presented and the persons facial characteristic. Of ALL hairstyles, this may indeed be one of the most difficult to "pull-off" based on so many factors. So, for the pole:
1.) Should a Mullet be considered a Longhair?
(My answer: yes.)
2.) Do you believe that the Mullet is perhaps one of the most difficult styles to "pull-off?"
(My answer, yes.)
3.) Would you ever consider a Mullet for yourself?
(My answer, no. This is based because of balance of facial features and artistic merit. Extremely critical. It would clash in my case I think.)
4.) If you were to have a Mullet, what type style would you enjoy best?
(My answer: Brad Stones.)
Other opinions?
Mullet pole?

My apologies Justin,
I am still giggling at the though of a mullet *pole*. Though I am a fan of the hairstyle in certain instances, I must admit my mind imagined a pole, perhaps the oft-mentioned ten-foot pole, carried about to keep any mulleted person at a distance. ;-)
I wish you well with your poll.

I posted earlier in the week on Mullet tips ,
1)I think it depends on the mullet , the type i planning
will be classed as long hair for sure .
2) A mullet would definetley suit me , I have a very rough stubbled
face that is just crying out for a Mullet flowing from the back .
3)I want one more than anything and would deff accomodate one .
I have been doing some research in to products that will help me gain the perfect style , i have found about a shampoo called the 'Mullet Bullet' because it makes your hair go so straight .
ROTFL!!!! (NT)

: 1.) Should a Mullet be considered a Longhair?
Mullet guys have some characteristics of the longhair look and some of the shorthaired look. That is why they get the harassment, folks. It's the same reason we get the toughest harassment when we are growing it out, not when we've "arrived". People see them as on the brink of being lost, so they try to woo them back. They see accomplished longhairs as a lost cause.
Don't think for a moment that most people who diss mullets don't also have similar thoughts about the long hair style that YOU have. Anti-mullet bigotry is a form of anti-longhair bigotry, so we should not let people play that divide and conquer game with us.
Because mullets are a practical style for a longhair who does outside physical work, anti-mullet sentiment is also sometime class based, but whatever social class a man with long hair is in, he deserves our support. People will tell you your mullet is low class just like they'll tell me I look like an old hippie. They are just saying anything they can think of to make you think less of yourself. That's my two cents. (By the way, being told I'm old doesn't bother me. It just reminds me that in life's biggest contest, survival, I am one of the winners. And nobody in my book deserves more respect than a man who does hard work.)
: 2.) Do you believe that the Mullet is perhaps one of the most difficult styles to "pull-off?"
All you need is a barber who can understand where to stop. :-) Some can do this and some can't. "Pulling off" a mullet is not difficult, but "maintaining it over the long haul" might be, because there's a natural tendency for the haircutter to take off a little more each time. You may after a year or two be more shorthair than tail.
: 3.) Would you ever consider a Mullet for yourself?
Been there, done that. So yeah. It was a phase I went through on my way to just letting it grow out everywhere. :-)
: 4.) If you were to have a Mullet, what type style would you enjoy best?
Not sure how mullet styles are named, but I've seen an exhaustive list of nicknames for the style. My favorite was "Kentucky waterfall". :-)

"1.) Should a Mullet be considered a Longhair?"
It depends. I'd say if the hair in back is below your neck, then in TODAY'S terms...yes.
"2.) Do you believe that the Mullet is perhaps one of the most difficult styles to "pull-off?"
By "pull-off", I assume you mean "hard to be accepted by society". I think this depends on where you live and how long the back is. Where I live (CA) and assuming the back only covers the neck, I'd say it's not hard to "pull-off".
"Would you ever consider a Mullet for yourself?"
Not currently. But I just had one temporarily while I was growing out! (as you know, Justin! haha)
: 4.) If you were to have a Mullet, what type style would you enjoy best?
Personally, I don't like the 'extreme' mullet (Billy Ray Cyrus or Joe Elliot back in the early 90's). So, since I don't know of any named individuals, I'll just explain that I would have my back almost cover my neck, sides shaved using a #3, and the top about 1" long. (yes, I know, how the hell could I know it to that detail, right?!)
Good poll, J!!
