Varied Hair Growth

I heard yesterday that the hair above your eyes grows slower than the rest because of evolution, and needing to be able to see.
Is there any truth behind this? I always thought it all grew at the same rate. I'm quite worried about this. I have reciently started looking for full time work, and allthough a lot of places around here arn't to fussed about long hair, they do prefer you to tie it back. The hair above my eyes and forehead (is there a name for this?) is chin length, and still not long enough to pull back over my whole head and tie back with the rest of my hair. I absolutely refuse to tie back my middle parting since this can cause fading.

No.

I don't know if the hair just above your forehead grows slower, but I do know that for many men it achieves a shorter ultimate terminal length. There may be a practical evolutionary reason for this: Hair falling in your face protects you from rain and cold, but you still have to be able to see through it. If the bulk of your hair is much longer it will stay together out of your face where it needs to be, while this shorter clump of hair - just about the amount you need for protection - will fall in front of your face.
Knowing that we evolved to survive outdoors of course provides you with little consolation if you work in a heated building where it is never raining or cold. :-) You may just have to use a gel or spray to keep it with the other hair. Although the bulk of your hair will cling to this hair and keep it to the side if your hair is "down", parted to the sides, and somewhat curly, it will not hold this hair with it if it is swept back. That's asking for too much of a deviation from its natural position - hanging in front of your face. It will thus need help - a gel or spray.
By the way, as one who hikes a lot, I can tell you this lock of hair provides a remarkable level of insulation if you just let it do its thing in nasty weather! It goes a long way toward protecting that one bald area on your heat-losing head - the space between your beard and your hairline. It can hold in a pocket of warm air and keep you from breathing in air quite so cold, so it helps warm your lungs, too. So don't overlook this asset of having your God-given hair if you ever find yourself in harsh weather where it might come in handy.
