need some help

i've been growing my hair for about 1 1/2 yrs now and its currently @ the bottom of my neck an d my hair is really wavy and when its windy etc its all over the place i was just wondering if there is a way to get rid of the wavyness so that it will maybe look like this instead http://the-light.com/mens/spanish.jpg i have used loads of different shampoos and conditioners and it still looks wavy when its dry and i never blow dry it someone recommended using hair straighteners are these a good idea to use or if not has anyone got any suggestions thanks in advanced

i've used my sisters hair straighteners and they work quite well, i'm lucky that she has the leading brand in the uk which is GHD, i'm not sure if they do any damage but if you over use them they definitley will damage your hair.
