The grief has started!!

Well its all started this week.
"Your not growing your hair again are you??"
"Don't grow your hair again, I don't like it"
"People will talk behind your back"
To be perfectly honest I'm getting a little sick of people telling what I should do.
Its my head, my body I'll do what ever I want. People sticking their noses in and telling me whats best for me.
Only been officially growing it for a couple of months, last cut was Sept 4, getting really curly at the back, think I'll get that bit cut off and leave the top. My fringe is only in my eyes when pulled down but people are giving it, " get your hair cut...."
We were discussing this in the pub last night, I said everyone I know has short hair, why should I be the same. The lads said I must be rebelling about something... maybe they are right.

Everyone who steps across tribal boundaries is called a rebel. Now, what motivates one to step over the boundary can be many things, including some personal rebellion. You've already stated what is important. It is your hair, head, body. You don't have to take orders from the tribe. They my turn you out, and then you have to decide whether you want to belong to that tribe on their conditions--or join a new tribe with conditions more to your liking--or not belong to a tribe. I still maintain that a man who grows out his hair is engaging, like it or not, in a powerful test of his life journey.

I decided to grow my hair out because I was sick to death of having worn short hair for the first 18 years of my life, and I desparately wanted a change. What's your excuse?
Once you're able to answer that question, and be honest with yourself, then no amount of criticizing from others will ever be able to change your mind.

Also forgot to say I started wearing a bud cap (beer) I got from a friend who runs an off licience just to cover my hair for a bit. First I got from my mum, OOh, I like that hat, IT COVERS UP YOUR HAIR.
Then a few days later, i get, take that bloody hat off, its rude to keep it on inside.
I can't win. My mates wife has threatened to shave me if I don't do it. Said i'd cut mine if she cut hers!

Dude, stop being so bloody melodramatic. I've offered all the advice I can give. Sounds like you've got other issues. Might I suggest dial-a-shrink?

When I hear something like that I'll get sick! We live in the 21st century and shouldn't have this kind of talk. This is like you are doing something awful that "People will talk behind your back" I just can say be strong and don't listen to such comments!
Well, I live in Germany and many men have long hair and its cool :-)no one looks at them as they were aliens LOL
"I said everyone I know has short hair, why should I be the same"
Yes, why being the same like everyone else? Its boring! Do what you want to do, but doing what others exepect you to do, is wrong...

Nyghtfall, offers some good advice.
Ask yourself why you are growing your hair, once you know yourself, you'll be able to tell other people quickly and clearly and they'll probably leave you alone.
One good answer to the Question "Why are you growing your hair?" is all you need. And believe me if your strong enough about it, "Because I want to" is often reason enough.
Stick with it, dont worry about your family & friends, they'll come around. And if you'll feel better with a trim, get one, just remember why you are doing it.
