Slowly but surely...

Hey everyone! I've spent a ton of time reading through a lot of posts, FAQ's links to other websites, and looking through all your pictures. It's very inspiring!
Currently I'm almost six months into letting my hair grow out from a rather short haircut.
I'm 30 and ever since I've been a little kid I've wanted long hair. But my mother, boss, or someone else always convinced me to cut my hair if it got more than a few inches long. Well, to hell with them, I'm not giving into anyone this time. Eleven years ago I rebelled against people's comments and grew a goatee & never looked back. Now I'm doing the same with my hair. I'm really excited with the progress (as slow as it is) and can't wait to have long hair for the first time in my life, like I've wanted all along.
I've had some nice looking short haircuts over the years, and even enjoyed the flattop look for a while, but just about EVERY time I went for a haircut I felt guilty, and bad, that I was thwarting any hope of ever growing my hair longer. I made the mistake of getting it "trimmed" at a trendy hair salon six weeks ago. According to the stylist I'm due to come back this week for another maintenance trim (which in my heart feels wrong). Thanks to this excellent website I now know that I will NOT be having any trims.
At this point my goal is to have hair almost shoulder length. Matthew Lawrence's hair looks great, maybe something like that. But who knows, maybe once I get into it, I'll want my hair even longer. Guess I'd better start taking progress pics, which will show not only my hair progress, but also body progress as I'm about six weeks into a new fitness routine and will soon be adding weight lifiting & body building. A year from now I should look totally different!

As a professional men's personal image consultant, I enjoy sharing the emotion when a guy like you gets excited about attempting what he perceives to be positive improvements in his personal image. More persons should realize one is never too old; that the right time is NOW. Much success!

Congratulations to your decision that you decided to finally have long hair afterall. Yes, NO trims, any trim is a fallback,(when you have bad luck the hairdresser take off more than you want) you will just need trims if the hair is MUCH longer. Good luck!
