Hi longhairs! i am a 14 year old kid who is in 9th grade and I want to grow out my hair. I always wanted to be able to put my hair in a pony tail and do that kind of stuff with my hair. The only thing is I have somewhat strict parents and i am a straight-A student and i dunno things would be so drastic. i was thinking, well college age ill do it but my parents always wanna be close to me and with family get togethers, wat would happen when people see my hair? I swear im straight (sexually), but when i think about me having long hair and me putting it in a pony tail, it makes me "feel good" sexually (boners lol) and watnot please dont laugh hehe i know u cant help it and like i said im straight but when i "long" to be a longhair, i often think about getting it highlighted and styling it in braids, cornrows, and watnot. Can u please post or even moreso, email me at SlamminJammin612@yahoo.com about why i have these feelings sexually about myself having long hair, why im feeling the way i do about getting it highlighted/styled, and what to do about getting it long with that whole family issue, THAT OULD BE GREAT PLEASE PLEASE! also PLEASE send me your pictures of your long hair. THANKS SO SO MUCH! ill be feverishly checking my email lol thanks everyone

I don't think that's anything too weird. Personally long hair and pony tails don't turn me on sexually (and I'm NOT straight, I might add...) but hey, everyone's got their own fetish(s). Me personally, I just really like the look of long hair, and always have. I find most longhairs are really nice, easy to get along with, and open-minded guys. Some of my best friends throughout the years have been longhairs.
If you have strict parents, that could be a problem. Try them out, I wouldn't tell them you wouldn't want to be a longhair just yet. When I was 14 I made the mistake of telling my strict parents just that and they never let me get past eight months of growth, but I suppose I could have rebelled a bit more. It was also at that time that I wanted to get my left ear pierced, and my mother asked if I'd like to put a bow or ribbon in my hair too. Tsk, whateva! A few years later I did it anyways, and they just had to live with it. For several years I've had both ears pierced and now I'm growing my hair out. If they don't like it, that's just too bad.
As for being a straight A student in school, I don't see how that matters. Smart students can have long or short hair. BUT, after reading up on hair care on this website and others, I don't think streaks or highlights would be a good idea. I've got some highlights, but that was from way before I started to grow my hair out.
Good luck man!

Straight A student? What more could a parent ask for? This shows great intelligence.
You like long hair and it excites you. SO WHAT! Hey, this is much better than a 9th grader in a constant state of depression. For many of us, Long Hair is the greatest, and we who are truly Longhairs would never think of having short hair. (Same as guys who would never want Long Hair.) No big deal here. Grow it and enjoy! :-)
ps: You can start right now. No need to wait till College. Good Luck.

Well, if you are a straight-A student (although your writing ability makes me question this), tell your parents that as long as you keep your grades up, that they should let you keep your hair down.

You're feeling the way you do because thats the way you feel. There's nothing wrong with it and your not hurting anybody. So, grow your hair, experiment with it and have a blast!

Sean - there's nothing wrong with feeling the way you do about your hair, or other people's. Infact I'd say, that if you do feel this way then you should definitly grow your hair otherwise you'd spend your life in a continous state of personal frustration and probably end up with severe depression.
I'd say you should talk to your parents, tell them that you want to grow your hair long and come clean about your intentions. Most parents objections are based on the following reasons.
1) Hate the thought of teenage rebellion, your not rebelling if your talking to them about it and practically getting their permission.
2) Dont want their son looking "scruffy", "gay", "hippy" or like a heavy metal singer. The fact is all of the stereotypes are bulls**t.
Introduce them to the board, I'm a Web Designer... Gollan's a computer Engineer, RB Gallagher is professional image consultant god knows what everyone else does. Most of us are straight, some gay, heck we even have some women here! The important thing is we are all normall people! Well... OK... not all of us... ;-)
3) They are worried what other people with think of you. Well, this is where you state your claim to individualism and stuff the idea of you and your family living your life to your neighbours expectations.
Talk to your parents, tell them that your worried what they might think of you growing your hair, and set their minds at rest. That will leave you free to pursue your personal goals.
