Split ends, or not?

Hmm... had an interesting (or not?) observation earlier today. As you all might remember, or not, in most posts regarding my hair I more or less usually complain about frizz one way or the other. I have finally managed to tame most of it using straightening iron and different hair products. However noticed an interesting thing earlier today, seems most of the frizzy strands have a white "thingie" at the ends (i.e. the ends reflects light a little different). I am guessing these are split ends. Looking at some of the non-frizzy hairs they don't seem to have the same light ends.
Just thought I'd check if they are split ends as I think they are, or something else really stupid, like me imagining it... ;)
If they are split ends, I guess that only proves the split-ender thingie is crap, lol.
