I have noticed most of you are talking about vitamins and hair growth
The follical(hair)is comprised of these parts (yes each strand of hair has 3 parts) CUTICLE, MEDULLA (containing melanin a pigment produced by cells called melanocytes.) and the CORTEX.
There are three main phases of the hair growth cycle; anagen, catagen and telogen. Anagen is the active growth phase when hair fiber is produced.
Anagen is the longest phase with up to 90% of follicles on a normal human scalp in this active hair growth state at any given time and telogen hair follicles comprise up to 10% on the scalp. The average rate of hair fiber growth is around 0.35mm a day (on average) but this rate can vary slightly from human to human. The length of the anagen growth phase for scalp hair is usually 6-10 years while telogen lasts just 30-90 days and catagen is best estimated at 14-21 days.
Normally this cycle of hair production and inactivity will continue for the duration of the individual's life but other factors can influence and inhibit hair growth and in some cases lead to physical deadening of th follicle (hair). Factors for deadening may include adverse reactions to drugs and cosmetics, or as a result of scarring, tumors, radiation, the genetics of the individual, hormones and/or their immune system.
The best ANYONE can do for hair growth is eat right, exercise, get adequate rest, keep your hair clean and stimulating the scalp to produce adequate blood flow.
Taking a mulit vitamin is okay but first consult with your physcian. All this talk about vitamins relates back to eating healthy nothng more nothing less.
Hope this helps answer your question on hair growth. I also hope it is not to confusing.

Well, that's encouraging, I pretty much follow that to a T, but nevertheless my hair still grows slowly. I estimate it's slower than a half inch per month. :(
For "stimulating the scalp to produce adequate blood flow" how does one do that? Just when washing your hair massage the scalp all over?

Use the tips of your fingers and a little pressure and rub all over when washing your hair.
When hair is dry a bursh is good for scalp stimulation.
Even get a friend to massage your scalp.

Reading through the list of suppliments that seem to comprise these hair vitamins, you can get your RDA of 90% of them by eating a large bowl of Kelloggs Cornflakes and a couple of Carrots!
