Straightening iron

Although I often hear that straightening irons are "bad" for the hair, after I use mine, my hair feels as though it's been deep conditioned! (Doesn't help me to fight the frizz tho'). Has anyone else experienced this?

I was over my gfs today and she was straightening her hair and she wanted to try it on my bangs so I let her. It didn't feel like it did anything bad to my hair, but i've heard it is bad for it.

I suppose once or twice won't really hurt all that much........but I HAVE heard that constant use will lead to loads of "Split-ends" and in the long run damage your hair............perhaps even leading to "Terminal" way ahead of of time.

i use a straightening iron on my hair every 3 days (everytime i wash it). while it is bad, i use a laminating spray prior, wich protects it from heat damage like curling and straightening irons. (also smoothes out the frizzies, even in this humid georgia weather).
i cant stand my hair if i dont use a straightening iron on it. it looks horrible, and is very prone to static, frizzies, and uneven curles at the ends. >_<
the spray seems to be working for me, because i cut my hair whenever it begins to show signs of split ends, and no longer has a sheer smooth cut, wich is only once a year.
