The work place, and long hair

Well being a teen I don't have a full time job. But, I was wondering does longhair affect the workplace at all, mainly in jobs you can or can't get because of your hair. For example any positions like law enforcement, armed forces etc. one must have short hair. Are there professional businessmen with long hair?
Just a thought that crossed my mind.

Well with the armed forces, its mainly due to the fact when in combat the enemy could grab it and you get the point :(. When it comes to buisnesses and or other working places through, you might face SOME discrimintion time to time being as theres no laws to out rule it against men with long hair. It's like finding a new car, you just gotta test drive untill you find the right 1 that works for you. Never negotiate length only style and you gotta keep the atitude, that your hairs worth ANY AND ALL the trouble it may cause. Basically, you'll meet some who will give you problems, but for every 1 of those situs you'll find someone who wont. Theres lawyers with long hair, college professers, and others with higher status jobs. I know a guy thats tatt'd up pretty well and peirced to galore and got a job teaching computers. As long as your qualified for the job you shouldn't have an extreme problem, and being your age I'm only 18 myself, theres little places that would give you to much fuss about it though. And if thier that close minded, why would you want to work for them to begin with?Good luck!

They don't really have much of an arguement - there is no hand to hand fighting these days - just computers sending missiles and high power rifles! More to do with the military being unable to discipline itself and letting prejudice and petty tyrants run the ranks.

It was my understanding that it had alot to do with combat situations having a lack of personal higene. Let's face it, bugs would just love to live up there. That's the excuse for prisoners too, keeping it clean.
None of that really makes sense since prisoners are indeed alowed to bathe, and not everyone in the armed forces is in infantry. I think it has more to do with the mental attitude of everyone being the same. You gotta be like everyone else to be part of the whole. But I'm just guessing with all this so don't take any of it to seriously.

*: They won't give women induction haircuts when they join the military, only men. I don't understand it, they train alongside men, go into battle alongside men, but don't get an induction haircut like men. Isn't this sex descrimination?

While at college I used to clean the council officies for a bit of cash, and there was a guy with hair down to his bloody knees who worked in education.
I've also seen a few guys walking around Lincoln in suits, so it must just depend on what job it is, how liberal your employer is and if you make a good impression without drawing attention to your hair.

I work in a large hospital where many guys have long hair. It doesn't seem to be in any particular department either. Some of my colleagues who are physicians as well have long hair. I have never heard of any derogatory statements made about any of them. My hair is between 5-6 inches at present and no one has anything to say about that.

I work at K-Mart. Its a crappy job, but good for someone my age (I'm 19). They don't seem to care about hair length; in fact when I started there was a guy in the camera department with blond waist-length hair! It was awesome, unfortunately he left a few months after I started.
I've been there just over a year, and there's been no real talk about my hair, other than occasional teasing (my boss is a lady and she is very jealous of my hair).
