my hair is looking sloppy, help

I been growing my hair out for about 8 months and now my hair is starting to look quite a bit sloppy. Is there a way to solve this problem?
Thanks

Congrats you've made it to the awkward stage!
If you told us a little more about your hair type and how long it is at the moment, then some people might be able to offer some suggestions.

well, my hair is about uh.... 5 or 6 inches long I believe and the color is brown, pretty thick, and has this one ghetto curl in the back which I don't like ( all my friends say they like it like that but I don't ).

OK - I'm having to summise a little form what you said - I'm gathering that your hair is 5-6 long, straightish with the odd wave/curl which looks outta place.
Sorry I dunno what a "Ghetto Curl" is.
I'd say you have a pretty good amount of length. Another few inches and a whole host of opportunities will present themselves to you..
Basically though your bang in the middle of the awkward stage where your hair is too long to be tidy and too short to have the necessary weight to control itself.
There are two things you can do.
1) Grin and bear it. Wear Messy Styles for a few months, once you get to 7-8 inches you'll be able to do a load more things to control your hair. Tuck it behind your ears, or wear the "half-tail" look, plus it'll have a bit more length and weight which will pull most of the annoying curls straighter.
2) Get a trim, I mean like a 1/2 inch trim, back in sides with nothing off the top. It'll make wearing "tidy" styles easier. But if you have thick hair then you are going to have to be prepared for it to get a bit "bigger" before its done.
I also find that I can make my hair behave better if I rinse or wash it each morning and I blow dry it on a cool setting.
The Good News is that with your hair type, you'll get through the awkward stage much faster than those with really wavey or curly hair.
