40 years ago 4 long haired lads from Liverpool
made their debut on the Ed Sullivan show.
The world would never be the same. I loved their music,
they inpsired me in 1964 to start growing my hair. Years later
my hair was waist length.
No 40 years later, I still have long hair (waist lenght) I still
love their music, but unfortunately only half the Beatles are
still alive, George Harrison died recently, John Lennon was
taken from us when he was much too young.
BTW, the Beatles record company Apple let Apple computer
continue to use the name as long as they didn't get into
the music buisness. Well Apple is now in the music buisness
with their Ipod. So will Apple have to change their name?

I kind of missed the Beatles and got interested in the rock music scene in the late 60's, early 70's music of Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, etc but none the less I always enjoy a Beatles song when I hear one.
BTW Aaron, your long hair is beginning to look real good at 12 and 13 months which is why I guess you're smiling in those pics.
Keep it up.
Charles
A little off topic, but...

No, Apple will not have to change their name...that's why they called it the "iTunes Music Store" instead of the Apple Music Store. However, I believe they're case is still in court. I think there's a difference between production and distribution and Apple is merely acting as a retailer. I never understood why Apple Records has a problem with this. It's gonna be more money in their pockets if they would allow Beatles songs on the iTunes Music Store.
You could say that the Beatles were responsible for the whole longhair revolution! I'll never forget the first time I saw the pictures that were included in the White Album...John's hair in particular. I was inspired from that moment on and finally got mine that length a mere 34 years afterwards!!!
I always thought it was great how they played off the press when they were grilled about getting a haircut. I remember one clip where George told them that he just got a haircut the week before! There was yet another clip where Ringo told the press that he "fancied opening up a beauty salon...a string of them in fact...in case we do flop." By the way, Ringo is the only Beatle who has graced the iTunes Music Store! Unfortunately, none of the Apple releases are there :(
Oh well...a little off topic i guess...all I know is that I'm celebrating with my iPod this weekend listening to the greatest songs I've ever heard by the greatest band to ever walk the Earth. The Beatles are great and their combined talents will NEVER be surpassed!
And, in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make!

I'd hardly describe the Beatles' hair length as long in 1964 even by 1970's reckoning though I guess their hair was long by 1964 standards.
However, while the Beatles set in motion a trend which has left its mark on the world, I wonder to what extent the Beatles continued influencing hair length which went shoulder length and later below shoulder blades, mid back and waist length, even though in the early 70's, John Lennon and George Harrison had hair below their shoulder blades.

I guess we'll be seeing more of our musical heroes passing on as we all inevitably age.
However, I hope that through discussion fora like this one, we can share some of our, experiences, fond memories and ideals with younger
longhairs on this list.

Thanks. I never knew that. I though the name Apple was taken from the apple fruit.
Now why didn't they get permission to call itself Beatles Computer Inc. as long as they didn't go into the music business?

yeah, when the beatles started out they only had a little shag. lennon ringo and george grew it out in later years though, I dont know if paul ever let his grow out.
A strange fact I recently found out about them is that Michael Jackson owns half their songs! How th e hell did that happen? And people actually wonder if he as any money left? It seems to me that if he owns all those songs I think he'll be well taken care of for the rest of his days.

But when I and many othes like me started growing our hair
when the Beatles broke on the scene it started a revolution. A revolution that culminated in the 70s when people like me
had waist length hair.

When the Beatles cut their hair in the late 60s I went on to let
my hair grow. It should be noted that when the Beatles cut their
hair they had reaced point where the Beatles were bigger than
life. It was one of many indications that the band, the Beatles were
coming to an end.
