How often do you shampoo?

Hi there,
I was just wondering how often do you guys shampoo/condition your hair?
I've started to grow out my hair, it's about 2 inches to 2.5 inches around. My hair is naturally wavey, but lately I've been shampooing everyday, and conditioning every another day. I feel like my hair is getting too dry and krinkly that it's actually starting to curl in the 'nesty' type of way. Using conditioner seems to make my hair feel worse, and I do wash out the conditioner completely under semi-warm water. I'm using the aussie mega shampoo and conditioner.
My hair seems to self repair itself when I stop shampooing or conditioning, and it becomes silky because of the natural hair oil. The problem is that it isn't as clean smelling, especially since I exercise daily. Also, living in a winter climate in the center of a busy city doesn't help either.
Any recommendations?
Thanks...

Between once and twice per week. Depending on if it needs it or not. Any more often than that just turns it into a frizz bomb.

I wash my hair once a week, maybe twice a week if I've done lots of physical labor.
I use Aussie Slip conditioner every day, and Aussie 3-minute miracle once a week (on the day that I shampoo.)
Hope this helps!

Hey man, I seem to have a similar problem as you. My hair tends to get on the dry side, but conditioners just seem to make it crappier, even though most everyone else gets good results with them. But lately, I think I have been finding a process that works for me. I shampoo with Aussie Moist shampoo every day, which cleans it as well as gives it a good amount of moisture. Then, as it is slightly damp, I run this special styling creme through it and that helps to smooth it out a lot! Heres a link for a description and pic of the styling creme I use:
http://www.interactile.com/finder/details/Sleek-Look-by-Matrix-Smoothing-System-Extreme-Styling-Creme/338545.html
I am still just starting to do this, so I'm not sure how long it's going to work for, but so far it's really working well and I think it will continue to do so. Give it a try, and see how it works!
(Oh and P.S. if you use the styling creme, you hardly need to use any at all. A little goes quite a long way.)

I'm using Aussie Mega shampoo. Have you tried it? I haven't tried Aussie Moist, but i'll try it out. The mega shampoo seems great since it leaves hardly any residue behind, but my hair feels stiff afterwards.
I might also give that styling cream a shot. Does it give a greasy kind of look? I prefer a free flowing shiny look to my hair, so I don't normally use gels to style my hair. Just water and comb.
Thanks for the help.
Cheers!

I have Aussie Mega as well, but I prefer Moist cause it makes my hair much softer. It also doesnt leave any residue.
The styling creme is good stuff, at first it might look *slightly* greasy when its in your hair, but feel free to rub it and stuff after it's dried out. As long as you dont use too much, your hair should feel and look nice and smooth. It's really kind of weird how that works, you would think any gel would just make it feel worse, but not really so. Just be sure you only use a little!

Maybe do it every other day. Nowadays, I try to do it every 3 days, but, before the end of October, I was able to get away with weekly shampooing and conditioning events. My hair was long enough that all the oil was evenly distributed. Even my zit production went down because of that.

you can shampoo your hair every day, 3 x a week, it doesnt matter according to infusium 23 website.
but i shampoo and condition my hair every 3rd day, that means if i take a shower today: shampoo and condition, i wont do it again until 3 days later, on the 3rd day.
Infusium 23?

Infusium 23 is a leave-in conditioner, correct? How does a leave-in conditioner work? Does it leave my hair greasy looking and watered down? I prefer a free flowing look, volume, with shininess. Does it help straighten out hair?
Thanks a lot for your help..

i've never tried infusium 23 leave in conditioner or any leave ins. but i read the directions in the back of infusium 23 leave in conditioner when i went to the store.
it contains liquid, its not conditioner, its special liquid. and you put it on your hair after you shower, massage it like a conditioner. you can also use it when your hair is dry.
it makes your hair more manageable, smoother. i've never tried it. but i'll use it when i get longer hair.

I only wash my hair on Saturdays now. Just shampoo and condition.
This gives me 6 days of naturally oiled hair, instead of the dry and brittle hair I used to have when washing every day or every other day.

You should probably condition every time you shampoo, in cool water (not warm).
It might just be the climate, as hair gets dry in winter with the low humidity. My hair is halfway down my back and I wash every other day.
I suggest experimenting to see what works for you - skip a day on the washing and see how you like it.

I try to wash every second day. When I wash every, I find that my hair has that "crunchie" feel to it, but that of course is because I'm doing some much stuff I shouldn't be doing, (under bright lights, swimming). When I rinse my hair, I always use ice cold water. It's gives a nice shiny look.

Lol. I don't "exercise" very often so I don't have that problem of fowl smelling hair. But of course, you can get smelly hair from hats while shoveling snow...(so I don't wear hats which is also a bad habait since your exposing your hair to the elements).

Hello-
I use a brand of leave in conditioner that might help. I love it. It's called "Infusium 23" brand, leave in conditioner. It has vitamins for your hair. As for shampoo and cond, I suggest going to health food store and buying an Organic natural shamp and cond. You may think Ausie is good, but it aint!
got a brand in particular?

I'm female w/ long hair, I wash every other day. I actually have oily scalp and dry ends, what I do is only shampoo the scalp and I never put conditioner on my scalp, I only put conditioner on the ends of my hair, this really helps a lot. I use to wash it everyday, but it use to be so dried and fried looking from doing that, now I use a gentle shampoo and conditioner (Back to Basics) and do this every other day. I visited east asia where the girls have long shiney beautiful hair and when I told them that most people in the west shampoo their hair daily those girls cringed and scolded me. So I took their advice and quit shampooing daily, and yes, it improved the texture of my hair dramatically.
hope this helps

I'm late to this thread, but on the off-chance that anyone is still checking it, here's my $.02.
If your conditioner is not improving the condition of your hair, you may want to pay attention to the ingredients. Not all conditioners are created equal, and it takes some trial and error to discover what your hair likes and does not like.
For example, my hair does not like silicones (any ingredient ending in -cone or 'conol), so I never use a product with those ingredients. Silicones are in many conditioners to provide slip and shine, and anti-frizz serums are usually almost pure silicone. My hair does like glycerin, however, which also provides slip and shine, like the 'cones, so I look for that ingredient.
As for shampooing, I shampoo just my scalp every 3rd day. I never directly shampoo the length, just relying on the suds running down when I rinse to sufficiently cleanse the hair shaft. I also usually apply conditioner to the length of my wet hair, and leave it on, before I shampoo the scalp. This protects the length somewhat from the detergents of the shampoo. Then I rinse the whole head, condition again, and rinse very well.
Thanks a lot...

Not too late Mary :) Thanks for the good advice. Yep, it will be a lot of buying and trying of hair products to find out whats the best. The good thing is that by buying these hair cuts, I still save money from not having my monthly haircut.
Cheers!
