metal bands discused below???????

If anyone minds, I read alot of the posts below about these bands, unfortunatly I am not afraid to admit I don't know most of them, I guess I am more familiar with mainstream. But here is my question, where might I find some of these bands cd's? Always open to new stuff. I also Hate buying cd's at $15-20 with out at least knowing there is something on it I will like.
Not looking to get laughed at, I am really into alot of 80's stuff, pop but hair bands especially. I also like alot of the early 90's bands too. As for metal I do like metalica, and gun's & roses, and a few other mainstream bands. I really like some harmony to the people signing, not just screaming / I want to be able to understand the lyrics. Oh and I also listen to just about all other music too, including country, oldies, classic rock, classical, ect. Am I a freak?
Any body willing to help me find some of these bands, give suggestions on what I might like?

: ...where might I find some of these bands cd's?
CDNow, Amazon, there are several places online you can order from. My advice is to do a Google for any band name you're interested in learning more about, and see if any reference to an official web site comes up. Most of them provide links to online stores you can order their albums through, including links to the labels that distribute their music.
OR...
Go directly to the band label sites. Here are a few I'm familiar with:
Spinefarm
Century Media - These guys specialize is promoting European bands for state-side audiences. Otherwise, don't be surprised to find that you may have to import some of the music you find you like.
Metal Edge

Surely, you jest. The single I've heard isn't bad, but it's not anything I'd want to add to my collection.

Most of the bands discussed on this board would have CDs at a Virgin Records outlet or available through Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble's website. Most mall CDs stores don't carry a metal section (real metal, not mainstream 'metal', that is) because the market just isn't as profitable as rap, pop, etc.

As far as I am concerned, Metallica's metal days were over in '86 and Guns and Roses was never really metal. There is always a debate over this issue, but Guns and Roses is just another rock band in my book. Mainstream 'metal' bands (i.e. Korn, Cradle of Filth, Mudvayne, etc.) fall into a sub-genre called 'nu-metal', which isn't respected very much by true metalheads. The metal that I listen to is not played on mainsteam rock stations and sounds nothing like these popular bands.
I really like some harmony to the people signing, not just screaming / I want to be able to understand the lyrics.
Then maybe metal isn't the genre you're looking for after all. Most subgenres of metal (thrash, death, grindcore, etc.) have indistinguishable lyrics.
Oh and I also listen to just about all other music too, including country, oldies, classic rock, classical, ect. Am I a freak?
No, you just have a broad range of what types of music you like.

All the metal I've ever heard has had easy to understand lyrics. So don't let that discourage you. Then again what I listen to is more considered power metal and symphonic metal. I've never really heard any thrash, death, or grindcore.

Metallica used to be awsome, anything after and justice for all is pretty much junk though.

Century Media records is an indie label worth checking out if you want to explore some diverse metal. Music For Nations used to be alright back in the day.
I like Guns N' Roses as well, but the band cannot accurately be classified as metal; GN'R are more along the lines of hard rock.
