Want to grow it longer

Hiya
My man's hair is down to the pitt of his back right now and has been that way a few years. We're looking for a way to help grow it longer (past the bum).
Any hints? Vitamins... excercise... the right shampoo?
He's got straight medium brown fine hair. It grows naturally into a shaggy round base (not a straight cut like fresh from the salon).
No picture yet. Cheers guys! :-)
Terminal length... ?

I will suggest a multi-vitamin/multi-mineral daily suppliment for better health and hair growth, but if his hair has been that length for a few years, I suspicion that he has reached TERMINAL LENGTH (click and scroll down to "The Lifespan Of Hair") and there is nothing that can be done about that. Terminal length varies by individual and it sounds like he has a shorter terminal length than he would like to have, though the pit of his back is still pretty long hair. I hope I can reach that myself! Peace!

Cheers. He had his length down his back for about ten years before I got my hands on it. At 6'5" that isn't too bad for length already but....
What I've done so far with carful trimming and getting rid of (pretty non-existent) split ends has grown it a few inches. I don't think it's reached terminal length for that reason and one other.
Right up to age 26 and even with not living with his mom any more she would (when he was around at hers) ambush him with a pair of scissors! Sneaky (insert explitive here) would grab his ponytail and cut through it in one go. She tried doing it while I was there once and I nearly exploded. Who is she to say his hair should be short??
Oh well, lol.
He's already on the vits but it would be nice to pull it out another foot or so if possible.
He's lucky... my terminal length is my shoulders *cry* Had alopecia as a kid. *boo, hiss* :) Thank Glod for extensions.

Although tips for former alopecia sufferers would be cool also.

Sounds to me like he is at "Terminal Length," that is how far his hair can grow. But, there just might be other factors such as the type of Shampoo or Conditioner he uses.........how gentle he is with it etc. (How it was treated in the past.) I suppose Vitamins can't hurt him but don't know really how much that will help. Exercise? Good for him........but to make his hair grow longer is doubtful. If after you have exhausted every avenue and you both still desire the hair at a greater length, about the only thing I can think of to resort to is "Hair Extensions." Women get them all the time, so why not Men? No shame in that. Good luck to you both.

No it's definetely not terminal length because his hair has still not recovered from his mom's last attack with the scissors. (See post below.)
Growing his hair saps all his energy - that is what his doctor reckons! Logically this would mean giving him more energy would grow his hair ~ give him a higher metabolism or something. His GP reckons he should cut his hair.
I truly don't understand why so many people are against him having long hair! If he did that he might as well cut off his whole head, both his arms and gouge out his heart. It's just not feasible.
It's definetely not at terminal length though. It's been longer than this - it's just not growing *now*. Can't work out why. Possibly stress is a cause?

i fail to see how growing hair- something we do by default- saps anyone's energy. eat a balanced diet and get plenty of rest... avoid stress whenever possible and keep alcohol consumption at a minimum... and find another doctor.

His doctor clearly has something against long hair on men. Having long hair meaning using more energy is the stupidist thing I have ever heard anyone say, ever, and I'm not just saying that because I like long hair.
