My progress

I started growing my hair in August 2002. It has been a little more than a year and a half since then and it is coming along pretty steadily. My only two problems are my bangs, which were trimmed about a full inch and a half shorter than the rest of my hair, and a mistake I made. I have acne on my neck and thought that if I shaved the hair on the back of my neck that it would help. I ended up taking the hairline up about a whole inch and it is only now starting to try to get back to normal. Does anybody have any encouragement or info that I may find useful. I'm going to let it get as long as it wants to, I don't have trouble taking care of it (washing, brushing, etc.)

Neck hair tends to grow less than the rest so that may not have been that bad of an idea. I get mine trimmed down too because it looks much neater when tied back and keeps the tangles down a bit right there.
Just let things grow back if you don't like them.

Dirty hair doesn't cause acne!!
Other myth causes of acne:
-too much or too little of sex
-chocolate
-dirty skin
Unfortunately most of it is by genetics, but other sources can aggravate an acne outbreak.
-stress
-sun exposure
-seasonal changes
-climate
-oily makeup
Hope that helps!

if i may be so bold as to say that i disagree...i dissagree. of COURSE dirty skin causes acne. acne is usually caused by enviorment(dirt, airborne bacteria, etc), excess oil(could be caused by hormones or genetics or both.) and dead skin cells building up in your pores, clogging them up. the oils of your hair, should you leave it unwashed for long periods, can brush across your skin and put more oil into your pores than intended.
your probably more seceptible to acne on your neck than other people, so that's why it could cause a problem with long hair. just make sure to keep it washed regularly, and get a simple 3 step over the counter acne treatment if the problem persists. no worries, my friend, and keep growing. :)

Well, I guess you agree partially. "acne is usually caused by enviorment" Like I said before, the environment should as stress from work and sun exposure. And you agreed that genetics plays a role in which how much oil is produced by the skin. Genetics is the major key to the problem. Unfortunately, no one for sure knows the answer. I don't know about dead skin cells building up inside of a pore. Although for different people, different things can aggreviate an attack.
"i dissagree. of COURSE dirty skin causes acne." But according to the book I have, The Doctor's Book of Home Remedies (1990), it states that dirty skin or hair doesn't not cause acne.
"acne is usually caused by enviorment(dirt, airborne bacteria, etc)"
Also for your information, it's not always dirt. "A blackhead is a very blocked pore...The black part of a blackhead is not dirt. In fact, dermatologists aren't really sure what it is..."
Have fun!

The health news flash website just confirmed about what I said before. That dirt causes acne is simply a myth. I will, however, retract my statement that stress causes acne.

Actually, the only way to really get at the Acne is by having a doctor give you a prescription. The cause has to be attacked from the inside-out............not the other way. This is the way to rid yourself of it.
