Shaving face

I was wondering if any of you guys could give me good advice on shaving my face. I always get razor burn and don't cut close enough. I don't want a beard to go with my hair though.

Do you dry shave or wet shave?
Some years back I was suffering razor rash and my doctor advised wet shaving as dry shavers tear at the skin. He also advised strongly aganst shaving gels - you are better off using ordinary shaving soap lathered up with a shaving brush. Change the blades regularly, too (pretty obvious really). I use aftershave lotion to sooth the skin, but you might want to consider some of the balm type products on the market.

Depending on your hair length, you could do what I do and put on an elastic head sweat band (I use one for shaving and the gym) so you don't get your hair caught in the razor.

I use bar soap and a double bladed razor. No aftershave or nothing and I have no problem. A dull blade is never good.
