Shampoo and hair growth

*Surferdude is my new name, formerly known as New Chris, because i like surfing and im not that new anymore so I think i need a new name:)*
I just had a question, by washing your hair often, does it slow your hair growth rate?

I don't think it slows your hair growth. As has been discussed, Hair growth is for the most part predetermined by your genes.
However, shampooing your hair too often can cause your hair to get dry. I don't shampoo more than once a week myself, but my friend (a fellow longhair) shampoos every day with no conditioner and his hair is just as silky smooth as you can get.
So to answer your question, it won't affect your hair growth rate, but it MAY affect your hair's condition and well being.

I also concur that washing too frequently may increase damage to your hair a bit. To achieve maximum length it is probably best to wash less frequently. If you are not going for maximum length it should not matter. Hair growth rate should remain unaffected by frequency of washing. Absalom

You wish! It's impossible for shampoo to effect the rate of growth. Practically speaking, shampooing only effects your hair length if the shampoo causes damage and you're forced to trim off the damaged ends.

Thanks guys for the help, the comments are interesting I wash my hair about 3-4 times a week with aussie moist and conditioner, I don't think i'm going for maximum length.
