Cowlicks go away?

On the back of my head I have a cowlick. I mean it doesn't stick straight up, but you can see a change in elevation on a clump of hair. Its so annoying. I was wondering if they go away once your hair reaches a certain length? Because I never see any girls with them that have long hair.
Thanks.
Yep!

It'll take some time, but they will go away eventually.

It's been so long ago that I dealt with it that I have no idea how long it'll take. I grew my hair out in the 70s. I remember having the problem in like '76 and I don't remember it being a problem in '79 or so, judging by pics I looked at.
Re: Yep! what length will it disappear?

i don't know what cowlick means, is it when the hair curls up in the ends?
i want to grow my hair up to 1 inch past chin length, and i can tell already that its probably gonna curl when its that length. what length does it usually disappear? because i dont'want to grow my hair any longer than that due to the job i have. 1 inch past chin length is very reasonable in my situation i am in.
