Although many on this board don't give a monkeys what Paul was trying to say, others, myself included, find this debate interesting, even though I would not change my hair length or style as a result.
This article sheds a lot of new light on the whole Paul question, and, if it is true that Paul himself had long hair in a simple tied back style, then it looks as though he was on our side all the time.
Welcome aboard, Mr Apostle.

holycross-hermitage.com/pages/Orthodox_Life/longhair.htm:
In our passage noted previously, Both not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? (I Cor. 11:14) Saint Paul uses the Greek word for "hair." This particular word for hair designates hair as an a ornament (the notion of length being only secondary and suggested), differing from the anatomical or physical term for hair. Saint Paul's selection of words emphasizes his criticism of laymen wearing their hair in a stylized fashion, which was contrary to pious Jewish and Christian love of modesty. We note the same approach to hair as that of Saint Paul in the 96th canon of the Sixth Ecumenical Council where it states: "Those therefore who adorn and arrange their hair to the detri ment of those who see them, that is by cunningly devised intertwinings, and by this means put a bait in the way of unstable souls."
Thanks, nobie - a great link.

:Very Interesting!!! Notice, it does say "The Tradition". The two Catholic Ordained Priests that I talked to regarding the tradition of men and boys wearing their hair long, and men wearing long beards were telling the truth!!!!

Well, that's a great article! I didn't know that Paul supposedly had long hair himself!! (Although it's not quite true about Jesus Christ being depicted "at all times" with long hair and beard, c. the "Teutonic" Christ.).
But yes, Orthodox monks today still follow the tradition of long hair and beard.
Paul's NT long hair reference always overshadows the OT refs in such discussions so it's good to see this article balanced evenly.
Great board, this! We come to discuss long hair and end up doing religious history, LOL
Fantastic.
