Is this shallow?

Does anyone think it's shallow when someone requires a "particular" image when it comes to joining a band?

No. The entertainment provided by the band includes what it looks like.

Having been in bands from 1977 - 1999, I can say that while it may be "shallow", it's usually for a legitimate reason. Image means a lot in entertainment, whether it's a local band or a national pop star.
Does anyone seriously think Britney Spears is a wealth of talent? Get real! Image!
I know in the bands I've been in, we had an image. We stuck to it. Long hair was a must. Decent looks were a requirement. It's like I've told many people...I've known some very good singers who looked like bums, and were turned down time and again by bands.. I've seen bands with average singers who had great looks. I knew a guitarist who could shred, but he was a big guy. No one wanted that in their band. I knew another guitarist who was among the best I'd ever seen, but he looked like the ultimate geek - buzzed hair, what we called "birth control" glasses (glasses so ugly and dorky that no woman would dare consider doing anything with you), etc.... so he never had a shot.
It's the entertainment thing...and there's nothing more shallow than entertainment.
I'll admit, that in every band I was ever a member of, we maintained a certain image. I also admit that we were somewhat shallow. Even to this day, I wouldn't want a band member who didn't look the part.
Shallow? Maybe. However, it's all a part of the game.
Depends on the band's image. n/t
