A matter of...ahem...hygiene

Hey gang!
I have a problem: I have thick hair which doesn't wet easily, and although I shampoo every other day and rub my scalp thoroughly while washing, I can still scrape more dead skin off my scalp after coming out of the shower. Much appreciation to anyone who can tell me about shampoos that cleanse thoroughly, other remedies, etc.

It would be a good idea to go to a dermatologist and have him look at it.
Could be sebhorrheic dermatitis

like me you could have sebhorreic dermatitis (do you have dandruff in your eyebrows and patchy flaky skin on your face?...or is it just your scalp?
I'd use nizoral till it clears up and keep it away with using it about once a week or a little later, should clear it up....also helps to use a gentle shampoo to not overdry your scalp.

Nizoral is an excellent solution to what sounds like sebhorrheic dermatitis indeed! The first few times you use it, try to keep it on your scalp for a few minutes before you rinse it off, then taper off to just using it once a week, then once a month (along with your regular shampooing) Make sure you brush your hair and scalp regularly with a large paddle brush to rid the scalp of excess flakes and to distribute your scalp oils throughtout your hair.

While I do have red, flaky patches of skin on my face and neck as well as my scalp, the dermatologist told me I have psoriasis. My hair is dry because it isn't porous enough to take conditioner well, but my scalp isn't dry; it's quite oily, and it causes the dead skin on my scalp to clump up. I need something to break up this oil. I stay vigilant about scrubbing my scalp to rid it of dead skin, because when I was fifteen, it clogged my scalp so much it caused my hair to fall out by the handfull. I had to shave my head and scrub it well to rid myself of the built-up oil and dead skin. I haven't cut my hair since then, save for a few trims. I'm twenty-three now.
