POLL: Salon vs Drugstore
Posted by Sid on March 28, 2004 at 17:39:39: Previous Next
In this poll, I would like you all to say whether you use salon products or drugstore products, and, if you wish, why. I'll start.
I have only used drugstore products so far, but am getting tired of them. I think it will be worth it for me to put in some extra bucks for a salon shampoo and conditioner. I think it'll be worth the extra dollars because I make regular shamps/cond.'s last very long indeed. (In fact, I don't know if I've ever finished an entire bottle!!!)

Sid,
Have you ever posted a picture on the board?

: Sid,
: Have you ever posted a picture on the board?
No.... I haven't, unfortunately. And I've been hanging on these boards for a good time now. Maybe I should post a picture, although I am always kind of wary about posting pictures on the internet...

just hair.

As of this moment, I am happy with the products I use. But I must
admit there were times (especially during the worst parts of the Awkward Phases)
that I thought I might actually need a product from a salon.
I've ofeten heard that some salon products are superior to 'drugstore'
offerings, but is that difference big enough to justify those higher prices?
Perhaps our search is really for some kind of 'Magic-in-a-Bottle'?
To tame the hair troubles which plague us?
TIME has solved many of MY hair problems, so any desire for salon products
has diminished greatly.
But if you feel the need to try out some of those products, you
definitely SHOULD do so, or you may forever wonder about it!

Hi :-)
I only use Salon Products. I have used the others, but have had much better results with the salon products. Presently, I'm using the Nexxus line:
Botanoil Botanical Treatment Shampoo to wash. It does not "lather" up like the stuff in the store, but this is because it does not have all that harsh detergent. It does do an excellent job getting your hair clean though, while leaving it in a nice condition.
Ensure Acidifying Conditioner and Detangle following the wash, and on days I don't wash, but just rinse and condition my hair. Why....because it has a ph of about 3. Hair has a ph of about 4.5 to 5, which is slighly acid in nature. Water, has a ph of 7, which is considered neutral. I like to use products that are slightly acid in nature like my hair. One nice thing about them is they will close the hair cuticle, causing it to lay flat on the hair. This gives greater strength to the hair, and makes it shine.
Finally: Humectress Ultimate Conditioner. It can be used in the way you use a typical conditioner, or you can massage a small amount of it into your damp hair, and leave it there. I use this after the Ensure, while my hair is still damp...putting a small amount in my hands, rubbing my hands together, and running them thru my hair.
What I find as a result of using these products is I have strong, undamaged, hair that feels soft, shines and does not have static.

Salon definately!.....drugstore brands tend to to contain ingredients that are way too harsh unless you wash your hair like every month! (maybe not so much Aussie range peop do seem to like that range....I dont tho lol)....but I dont think anyone does that. They're usually packed full of cheap nasty silicones/harsh detergents which dry out your hair and coat it with nasty silicone and other things which buildup. Pantene is probably one of the worst for this, esp the conditioners - yuk! they leave your hair all nasty feeling and dry after you've used them for a few weeks. You need to use a clarifyer way more with drugstore than salon brands to get rid of the buildup....

I’m a notorious tightwad who never pays full-price for anything. Everything is purchased as store brand or on the sale rack or with a coupon. However, after finding no drugstore-brand haircare products I liked, I broke down and shelled out the bucks for Phyto products at a local salon and am hooked. I use Phytobrush shampoo, Phytosesame conditioner and Phytodefrisant hair-relaxing balm. This combination is for people who want to blow-dry their curly hair, but I’ve stopped blow-drying mine (finally out of the awkward stage…hooray!) and it works just fine at controlling frizz and keeping my hair soft. Highly recommended!

I've always used Drugstore brands, but sooner or later they always end up drying my hair out...
I'm moving over to a salon brand, see how that works out.

Drugstore. Just haven't felt the need to pay the premium price since
less expensive brands work fine for me.
