Need help on straightening hair please

hey
i'm new to this site, and i really like it
i have a question about my hair, my hair is wavy, and when it is grown down to about 3-4 inches/my eyes.. and i split it from the middle, my hair flips/curls up from the sides
i guess that was my awkward stage, but i just gave up and got it cut, and now i am making it straight back after applying some Clairol Renewal X5 conditioner, which you can just leave in your hair
well, my question is, is there a way that i can get rid of those 'flips'? like putting on something in my hair?
or if i grow my hair again, and if it gets a bit longer the 'flips' will go away themselves?
P.S: i don't want to use hair dryers or anything like that
THANKS!

Hi Darc2k
I think Theron's reply to my Post imediately below this one might answer some of your questions, albiet indirectly.
The curls and flips are normally the result of the 'free movement' of hair, anything you can do to restrict its free movement will stop the flips and curls. Example: Keep using the products to keep your hair straight.
When you've gotten some good length to it, trim the back and sides lightly every 3 months, this will gradually give you a more top heavy style (which is also longer) and your hair will be more inclined to lie flat and be more controlable.
You mentioned you don't want to use hair dryer and stuff so you'd probably be against straightening irons as well, but again - you'll need some length first.
More immediately why not try some of the smoothing shampoos & conditioners, they should reduce frizz and make your hair less rebelious.

darc,
eventually the weight of your hair will hold it down, but until it gets long enough you may have to endure it.
you have ruled out the option of a hair dryer, that, and a flat iron would be your best friends when it comes to hair lying straight. if you don't want to use them, then you have eliminated the tools to use.
best of luck,

hey
sorry for the double post, i'm new here and didn't know where to post my new response/question
thanks for the replies, i use shampoos for dry/damaged hair to make your hair softer and silkier, like Pantene Pro-V
there's also a shampoo i've seen that straightens hair, but i'm afraid to use it cause it might cause baldness or something, even though it comes with a conditioner in a seperate bottle
right now my Clairol Renewal 5X conditioner that i'm using is pretty good and gets my hair straight, and it says to 'leave on as desired' after applying to wet hair, so i leave it on and rinse it out the next day when i take a shower
the conditioner keeps my hair held and shiny :)
i'm growing my hair long again, but not the way i used to split it from the middle, right now i'm making my hair back
are you guys certain that after the awkward stage my hair will come down instead of curving up?
thanx!

This is relevant, because my hair is just starting to get in my eyes, and no, theres not much you can do to stop it. You couldn make a centre parting in your hair to give it extra height on your forehead so it doesnt get in the way, or part it so it parts either side of your eyes.
It is the awkward stage, but its also the fun stage, as you can give people misconceptions on what your gonna look like when you hairs long, and then when it finally is long, totally surprise them:)
You could use gel, but thats gunk and its bad for your hair,(a lot of gels contain alcohol ingredients which dulls the hair) plus putting gel on longish hair screws the point of having long hair in the first place.
Yes, more length will stop it flipping, just be patient:)
