there are some people from every race who look good with longer hair- others who are better off keeping it short. what's important is whether YOU like the way it looks. if so, keep growing it- to the ground if you so desire. as to your observation- there aren't many men of any race with long hair... short cropped hair is simply in fashion these days. that you have the guts to be different is to your credit. whether or not someone else thinks long hair suits you should be immaterial.
by the way, noting the differences in appearances among people of different backgrounds is not discriminatory... just a common sense observation. part of the cultural problem is those who would misconstrue your comments as a racial slur. for whatever it's worth- i've seen a few hispanic men with long hair & think it suits them well.

I have seen a good number of hispanic males with long hair in my city. To add to what John said here and what I said in an earlier thread about hearing aids, we all have differences. Some people just have problems with them. I applaud your pride and celebrating your culture.
Heredity is what most commonly predisposes us to our type of hair: curly, straight, etc. I, too, have observed the same types of traits you have, but would add that some indigenous American tribes and Asians tend to have the same lustrous, shiny and straight-type hair.
I think long hair looks great on guys (think male lions' manes), and personally perfer short hair on women (think it makes 'em sexy). But that's me.
P.S.- Ricky Martin used to have long hair.

Hmm... when he was in Menudo, he had short hair. When he was acting, he had long. Now his hair is short again, and once again he's inflicting his music upon us. I think I see a trend.

Here are a few pictures of Ricky Martin I've collected showing him with his long hair. I think he looks fantastic this way, much better than the pseudo-long-flattop look he has now. Of course, he's good looking and can pull off the other look, but this is the best! I especially like the way his hair falls over the front of his face.

I am so envious of Latin and Asian men ... they can grow their hair almost to the damn floor with no problem, yet my Scandinavian hair quits growing about 1/3 way down my back!

I think its the combination of the darker complexion and the jet black hair that is so great. The other thing I've noticed is that it look best when its thick. I don't care if it's straight. And I especially like it when its curled and unruly. This one guy at the bagel shop had this incredibly dense crop of black curls he was growing out last year. Generally I'd see him when he had then pulled to the back of his head into a thick pony tail of cascading curls. We got to talking and he told me that as a child, his hair had been super straight, but that a number of years back, as he entered his late teens, it call curled up on him.
It didn't really bother him, but he thought it was strange.

My fiance who is from Brooklyn and Puerto Rican has long hair and is growing it longer. He had short hair when I met him, but I told him I loved men with long hair and he began growing it. Its down just past his shoulders now. He has really thick, black hair and he is more of an olive skin complexion. I think he looks beautiful!!!! We are definitely soul mates and I feel like sometimes God put us together we are so similar. Okay, stop, I'm getting drippy, sorry.
I love long hair on men regardless of their race though. I love it in all colors, lengths and textures. They even get kudos from me for even trying.

Really? What part of Guatemala? I am from San Cristobal, Alta Verapaz, but I went to school in Huehuetenango. You're right, there are no longhaired guys there, or at least very few. Also, not many with beards. We were always told that if you grew a beard people would think you were a guerilla. Well, my dad had a beard virtually the entire time (10 years) I was there, but he never got into any trouble about it.
I have seen a few longhaired guys in Guatemala, but I think all of them were hippies in Panajachel.

I'm also of Puerto Rican descent, born in Chicago but currently living in Puerto Rico and like you, I think latin men look really cool with long hair. Unlike you, though, I look like a typical "gringo": my skin is really fair, my hair is medium to light brown (and wavy) and I have green eyes... but I'm no less latino than you are!!! Damn proud of it, too! And I just started letting my hair grow out about four months ago...I'm in the "bad hair phase"... whew, it's not easy, but here we go... any moral support would be greatly appreciated.
