Dark Longhaired Guys vs. Blonde Longhaired Guys
Posted by Thee Longhaired Gal on August 25, 2004 at 16:43:23
Okay, I was thinking about the attraction difference between men with long dark hair and men with long blonde hair.
Have any of you had comments based on the colour of your hair or just because it looked nice?
I sometimes think that the haircolour also plays a roll when receiving a compliment.
I mean, different people like different things, so it might be safe to say that it depends on the individual who's giving the compliment, if they prefer long dark or blonde hair.

I personally like dark hair, therefore, if I see someone with long dark hair (brunette or black) I'm more likely to compliment than someone with long blonde hair.

I prefer girls with brunnette hair. Always have.
Yet the other day I saw this guy (don't worry, I'm straight so I wasn't attracted to him or anything) with the most wonderful long RED hair.

Dark hair looks lovely. tho it depends sometimes blonde can look nice if its multitonal, but only on girls I think or guys with highlights/lowlights, not many people esp guys have very blonde, blonde hair its more golden ashy coloured. But for me dark is better, dark hair with deep or golden brown/black eyes, pale skin : )

for the eyes. I prefer light colored eyes, especially blue.

And don't forget those with streaked hair, greying hair, or leftovers from a past dye job. With men there is also issue of balding which can color someone's view of their hair.
A great many variables to consider. One thing that springs to mind though is how many natural blondes (not all of course) can tend to have somewhat lighter weight or thinner hair than many dark hair types. Factor in the amount of curl, length, care (even body type) and the personal preference of the viewer and the question gets kind of fuzzy.
I think that comments from women on the condition of your hair tend to be pretty common due to the fact that many women do many bad things to their hair in an effort to enhance their looks. What they do often achieves it's goal but in the long run it is destructive and it seems strange when they say "I don't know why my hair won't grow any longer" (looking at fried strands).
The idea of color being a factor for comments is always possible but would probably only be verified if someone specifically said that this was a reason or if people consistently picked you out of a group of similiar longhairs due to hair color.
I think that the rarity of guys with "long" hair is still novel enough to many people that the length is more eye catching than the color.
Everything looks different on everybody.

I could not agree more. Extreme length definitely demands attention, regardless of color. I know from personal experience. Absalom

Well, I've been complimented by women on both my hair color and the overall look. I'm embarassed to admit it but when I cut it short one of my closest girl friends actually cried. Crazy? Maybe, but that's how some people are about hair I guess.

I'm crossing my hair for nice blonde looking hair, and I realise that I've got at least another summer to sunbleach it before I should arrive at my goal length:)
I can't really comment on having compliments on colour, but I know lots of girls who like touching and running their hands through my hair, dso theyt must like it for some reason:)

Your hair is lovely and thick as you said...perhaps texture can also be a factor when complementing or getting a compliment?

This is interesting now that I think of it. I do get compliments on my hair and almost everyday somebody would ask me what shampoo I use, but nobody ever commented on my hair color. Somehow I think black hair gets little to no compliment just because it's a) common if not expected on Asians and they're all the same, and b) it's common even among Caucasians. As far as I know, the dark hair gene is dominant, so it's more common than lighter colors.

Speaking only for myself, I know I never received a hair color compliment when my hair was darkest brown, but now that I keep it medium auburn, I get complimented all the time.

And this is one of the issues about the difference between men and women's hair.
Is it mainly men that compliment you on your auburn hair? Is it mainly women complimenting men on their hair? That would put the sexual attraction factor as one of the reasons and maybe hair is just an excuse or simply a look additive that attracts their attention.
We know that blonde women tend to get a lot of attention due to their hair color just being brighter and easier to notice as are wild feminine hairstyles depending on what sort of body type and clothing it is displayed with.
We also know that society as a whole doesn't have issues about women having long hair as it does men having long hair.
Your personal experience as a woman on the receiving end of a compliment, due to the factors involved, can't really answer his question, but your view from giving a compliment to a man could.

Actually, I think women mention my hair color at least 2:1, and as often as not it's up. So sometimes color comments are independent of length comments. Although one woman hated my hair color...
I do comment on men's hair, if the situation seems appropriate. I'm always hoping that if I compliment a guy on his well-kept hair, it will influence him not to cut, but it doesn't always work that way.
Sometimes I'll compliment a guy on his hair if it looks like he's trying and needs the support, even though maybe it could be better.
I had an interview today with an assistant principal with gray hair past his shoulders, and a full beard.

I distinctly remember one compliment from a very pretty girl. She grabbed a few fingers full of my hair and complimented me on my "head full of beautiful, thick, dark brown hair."
Maybe she likes dark haired guys.
But hey, don't forget redhead guys with long hair.

More redheads need to grow out their hair. Sometimes I think I'd like for my own to be this colour:
