Hi,
I've been growing my hair for rougly 3 and a half months. I was wondering when I should go for a trim to clear up the split ends/knots???
Thanks
Carlos

The recommended average is once every 6 months.

The recommended average for long hair is 8 to 10 weeks. You are overdue, IF you want to keep it looking nice while growing it.
If you don't care how it looks, never have it cut.
Are you going for the "Harry-Haystack" look, or the well groomed look?

If you take good care of your hair and don't overwash it you shouldn't have many split ends to worry about. Trimming slows the whole process down and I wouldn't recommend it at all.

Never Carlos, NEVER...
Don't listen to that "split ends" myth....get a good magnifying glass and look at the ends of your hair that you brush out....doubt you'll find many "split ends."
There are a wide array of products to help with the tangles...just don't cut it, unless you want to wait.

Unless you have been combing your hair with a weed-whacker, I doubt you have much in the way of split ends with only 3.5 months of growth. Be gentle with your hair to avoid damage! As for trims, in the early months, I went for for shape-up trims every 2-4 months (to look well-groomed; if I didn't get it trimmed, I would have gotten fed up with the whole mess and gotten it all chopped off). Once your hair gets a little longer, you can go much longer between shape-ups or trims. I've been growing since August '99 - last "real" haircut; got a trim in Oct '99, Jan '00, May '00, and none since then with none on the horizon as my hair is now keeping its shape nicely, although I still can't get it in a ponytail. My curly hair is just at shoulder length in the back, tapering up around my face, and has a nice shape that is growing out gracefully and stylishly (my humble opinion!).Just make sure your stylist knows your goal and will work with you to help you grow it out in style. That way you can enjoy every stage of the process.
