More proof of a welcome trend

I am in the salon industry and subscribe to many trade magazines. In this month's "American Salon" is a brief blurb I thought I'd share with all of you.
American Salon, December, 2000.
My Mane Man -By Tina Lee.
"What is it about men with long hair? A love letter to rebellion, free-wheeling sexuality, and bad boy-good times, long hair adds a certain animal magnetism. A mane man is brash with a healthy disregard for authority and an appetite for breaking the rules. Any way you cut it, long hair makes a man look like the stranger who came to shake things up in a sleepy town; in short, the look speaks of something wild. Over the years, hunky leading men have grown their hair for dramatic roles and looked good. Check out these matinee idols, as we discover that it's length that really matters."
Accompanying this short article are photos of Tom Hanks and Daniel Day-Lewis wearing long wigs and Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt with their own long hair.
Over the last year or so, the trade mags have been showing men longer and very long hair. Celebs are growing their hair longer, and many designers are using long-haired models in their shows. The pendulum is indeed swinging our way, friends.

Well, I didn't grow my hair to be fashionable, and I won't make decisions about it based on magazine articles and design trends. But if I get hassled a little less or get complimented a little more because of current fashion, that's fine with me.

I certainly wasn't implying that any of us have grown our hair long to be fashionable, nor that any of us need the blessings of the fashion world, but I do think it's was nice that the industry news and various fashionistas are acknowledging what we've known all along. And if current fashions inspire men or boys to let their hair grow, or give an impitus for those who may be a little apprehensive to do so, then I see no problem in that, and it may even bring to light in more minds the issues with which many longhaired males have to contend. And what's wrong with that?
Or we could all be taking long hair far too seriously. Nah, I thought not.
