Longhairs in Europe

I just returned from a 5 week trip in Greece, where I saw WAY more
long haired men than here in the US (even in California, where I
live). Many also were wearing earrings, often in both ears. I had
occasion to talk with a Swede on the subject - he told me that in
Sweden, about half of the men have long hair.
What's the situation elsewhere in Europe? Are we, in the US, being
stuck with an arbitrary standard that the rest of the world isn't?
(say it isn't so!)

I guess in Germany less than 10% of the men have long(er) hair. Most of them look as if they immediately have to go to an interview with an assurance company or a bank. But one can see more men with (very) long hair as in the 70th.

yeah i don't see that many long-haired men in the netherlands too.
though i think more than in germany maybe
btw: in the netherlands the kids are really pop-lovers or techno-lovers or house-music-lover, all music you don't let your hair grown.
In america there seemed to be more kids who like classic rock or even bluesmusic (lots musicians of that style have long-hair so it should be normal to have more longhaired-men over in the us then here)

I'm sorry, but I can't agree to that - The Swede you talked with had right about half of the men - but he must have meant "half of the men between 13 and 26). Most of the older men have their hair cut.
The big diffrence between Sweden and a lot of other states is that the trend with long hair of men starded in the sixtees and has been accepted by most of the population. Many boys decides to let their hair grow when they're 13-14 and most of the girls loves it.
Other boy (and man)trends that is more common in Sweden than other states is earrings (in both ears) and the last four-five years has black/blue nailpolish got very popular.

Interesting... I just had both my ears pierced 3 days ago, but I
told this particular Swede that I was going to do so - he didn't
bat an eye... (and I'm 40!)
