A few weeks later my top boss or owner of resteraunt told me i mut put my hair bac or cut it off so I did . with in the last three eek I have been getting my hours cut supposiblly becuase Jaaaan and Fevb are slow months and a fe days ago a female bos told me that I they cannot give me more hours until I cut my hair. all of this is in the name of health hazard of hair dropping in food. butaa couple of eeks before the when I had my hair in a pony tail he told me to put it up in my hat or cut it off becausee I could not have long hair.
What the heck is going on can some one respand to this?

Jerome:
January and February are slow months, so there might be some truth to that. If your McDonald's requires you to wear a hat, then you have the perfect opportunity to put all your hair up under the hat. Done!
Hazard is gone. I have a friend who works in a deli at a grocery store. His hair is nearly waist length now. He always has it up under his hat. If you put it under your hat it wont get as much greasy smoke into it from the fryers. Be an excellent worker and ignore the hair issue because you are the only one that it is important to in terms of having and enjoying long hair. Focus on doing
your job well, reliably, politely, cooperatively and the hair issue will go away. Keep an overall clean and neat appearance. That's what you want from people who serve food to your so give it back. Ask for more hours or let them know you are available. If someone is not going to come in, ask if you can havetheir hows. Don't be passive.
Be active and above all DON'T CUT YOUR HAIR.

What kind of hat? A chef's hat? At MacDonald's, they wear caps or visors; but at Benihana's, the chefs who prepare meals on your table are dressed-up in full chef's uniform, including hat!

Jerome: Can I add one more tip to Bill's near-perfect response?
I thought I detected in your message a hint that you're willing to keep your hair under your hat, but that you're having trouble keeping it there. You need to do whatever it takes to keep it there. Pin it up with bobbie pins or contour clips, and/or wear a hair net. I don't know where you live, but public health laws in North America are pretty universal about requiring food handlers to restrain their hair in a net or some other suitable covering. If they hired you with your hair long, then I doubt they've suddenly decided to discriminate unless something else is going on. Restaurants of all kinds can be and often are shut down by the local health department for these kinds of repeated violations. In that case, you can't really blame your employer for wanting to make sure they obey the law. Good luck, and don't cut it -- unless *you* want to.

:Do they treat long haired female employees the same way who handle food? Or is it the male employees only? I'm kind of curious. Please respond. I agree with Bill's answer also, find a way to secure your hair and by all means: DON'T CUT IT!!!
