It is completely normal for us to lose 100 strands from our head each day; the loss tends to be much more visible and distressing when we have long hair than when we had it short. Also, with long hair the shedded strands are often more likely to remain entrained in the remaining hair mass than with short hair (where shedded strands are more likely to fall to the breeze during the day, unnoticed); therefore getting rid of many the dead hairs requires washing, combing or brushing -- and more of the shedded strands will show up then, to your possible alarm.
A few times now I have done a detailed count of the strands in my bathtub (I do not have showering facilities at home and normally get to have a bath only 2-3 times a week) and in my comb just after a bath and hair-wash. I was rather surprised that what looked like a lot of hair, which for me is getting to be about 6" long, really amounted to only 72 strands one day. Other days I found 57 and 61 strands. As I see no sign that any part of my developing mane is thinning (though the area in front has always been somewhat thinner than the rest), I am not concerned about it and would say no one need be too concerned about finding about 100 strands lost if there is no sign that a part of your mane is thinning. Even then, as I have said before, I am of the firm belief that a man can have a thoroughly dignified-looking mane even with significant hair loss. From a few examples of such men in my area, it appears that even with extensive baldness and advanced age (possibly 70s in one case) the remaining hair can still grow to mid-back length or longer and create a very adequate curtain extending most of the way across the back of one's shoulders.

I don't think I lose more than 10 or so hairs a day, max. Here's some other factors just for reference: I'm 17, my hair is about 8" at its longest parts, it's light brown, thick (at least told so by others), and it's more or less straight.

And I forgot to mention that I comb it thoroughly in all directions both in the shower and while drying, so there is no lost hair unaccounted for.
