Attorneys with long hair

I was wondering what people on this board would think about an attorney with hair about five inches short of waist length? I'm about to graduate from law school and am worried about finding a job with a law firm. I basically have the ability to go anywhere in the country so I'm looking for the most hair friendly location in the United States.

Bob, whatever you do, don't come to Utah. It's so ingrained in the Mormon culture that long hair is somehow evil or dirty that you'd never get any clients.
Maybe it's just that Southern hospitality, but I did find that when I lived in Texas (Dallas/Fort Worth area) I was never hassled or even looked at sideways.

I live in the Houston area, and I'll get occasional wierd looks, mostly from older rednecks, but most people don't seem to think it's a big deal.

An example is B.Y.U., in Mormon Utah.

: I rarely see men with long hair, but would love to have one defend me. Just wanted to support you, sorry I have no direction to give.

California's the place ya otta be. You'd fit right in. People in California couldn't care less about how long your hair is. And it's where the money is. Go for it.

I agree with Roger. California's the place to be. I know of several long haired attorneys and even one long haired judge in San Diego. Don't cut your hair, just come out to California.

Maybe you could make a fortune suing technology companies who fail to provide reliable technology. Too much of the new technology just doesn't work. When I was reading this message board, my internet access provider stall out then refuse to re-connect my dialup connection.

I agree about the California comments, which would be true especially in San Jose. That would also be true in Austin, TX, where I live. Austin is different from the rest of Texas in many ways, and this is one of them. I know of several elementary school teachers, for example, who are men with long hair.
Where in the country would you practise? I think that may help determine what decision you make.
One final comment is that once you develop a reputation for yourself, it probably won't matter much. Additionally, if you are the type of person to carries an air of confidence, having long hair could perhaps even help you. Your wearing long hair sends the message that you are so confident in your abilities that that exceeds the potential negatives of your long hair. I know that seems contradictory, but I think it really works that way sometimes.
