Problem with split ends

When I had my hair as long as it took to reach the top of my ears I realised (actually my hairdresser realised) that I had split ends and adviced me to cut them immediately which I dit. I had been using a blow dryer for a couple of months ,2 times a week, to straighten and dry my hair which at this length had gotten a bit wavy.The strange thing is that my hair where too short and I also trimmed the ends every 2 months but the ends managed to got split. Now I want let my hair grow long but what should I do to keep them nice and straight?

You can't do much about splitting - it will always happen to all of us. Many factors like hair rubing against your pillow, brushing the hair, enviroment etc. split the ends. Just go between hair cuts a little longer (add an extra month perhaps) and let your hairdresser cut the only tips (about 1/8 of an inch.) Using styling product for your ends will help you go between the cuts longer and your ends will look healthier for a day, before you'll shampoo the product out.

Regarding the trimming of split ends, cutting off no more than half an inch is sufficient BUT this should not have to be done at every visit to a stylist/salon. Split ends are not a natural occurance based uponthe properties of your hair. Rather, they are the result of how the hair is treated.
The outside layer of the hairshaft is similar to a snakeskin--an array of overlapping scales. Moisture causes the scales to soften and lift, putting the hair shaft at peak vulnerability for damage--just when you are applying heat and dragging some tool (brush?) through the hair to straighten it. The result?--you cause tearing and split the hair shaft at the end. Properly used, blowdryers are meant to remove only EXCESS moisture from the hair. Damage is inevitable with frequent and prolonged use of a blowdryer to dry the hair thoroughly--especially while exerting pressure to straighten wavy hair.
The longer your hair the healthier the practice of alowing your hair to air dry (dry naturally and loose) after removing any tangles by combing all your hair straight back with a wide-toothed comb.
