No more pony

I posted a message a couple of weeks ago (do chicks like it longer?) and was just about to shed the pony tail. Well I've been 2 weeks without the pony and I love it. The best part is that my new girlfriend also likes it down. I'm 44 years old and didn't want to look like some sort of ageing hippy. The one concession I made is that I ditched my beard and mustache. The beard was awfully gray. My hair almost has no gray at all. That makes me look a lot younger. I must say, I like the new look.

I don't quite understand... Did you cut your hair or are you just not wearing it in a 'tail anymore? As for your age, I didn't START growing my hair until I was 38! I'ts now mid-back and will stay that way, though I don't wear a 'tail either (I like it loose).

Alan: I thought that he was running with his PONY-tail between his legs ([NAME WITH-HELD] is usually one of those ponytail-&-goatee combination types like the ones in that nightclub mentioned in a Visa credit-card commercial) to avoid the guilt association between longhairs and convicts, so he believes that convicts shouldn't be members of the longhair community …
Sometimes, I felt that I wasn't a member of the longhair community on this HyperBoard because all people talk about are pony-tails, and I thought that a pony-tail was a cop-out way to HIDE your long hair (between your legs?). But it is nice to know that there are some people who aren't afraid to wear it out or loose and show the world! After all, I came across this HyperBoard believing that everyone is discussing ways to SHOW off their long hair, not HIDE it!

I don't consider wearing a pony tail a way to "hide" your hair. When
my hair was down to my waist I would often wear it in a pony tail to keep it under control at work, i.e. keep it out of my face so that I could get my work done.

Their is a practical side to the ponytail. I used to wear mine all the time because basically I WAS Hiding it. I still wear it on windy days and sometimes at work. Now it is just another variety of hairstyle instead of the only hairsyle.

Hey guys. I've been lurking around for a little while now, and I was in the process of growing my hair out. Now, so far, it was about down to the end of my nose, and a lot of people that I work with and go to judo with didn't like it. So they all grabbed me last night, and shaved my head with electric clippers. I'm not impressed with them, and this has set me back about 5 months or so. This may cause difficulty with finding and keeping a job this summer when I plan to move out from home, as I have to begin the awkward stage all over again. What combinations have you guys been using to boost your hair growth? I started Biotin a few weeks ago, and I'm upping the dosage to about 1200-1500mcg. Is there anything else that would help with the growth? (such as HF37...if that's what it's called). Thanks for your responses.

Um... this is assault and battery, possibly worse [mayhem] in some jurisdictions. You have both a criminal and civil case against these people.

Yeah, like they said, this is a criminal act. According to a cop I did Drug Informant stuff for, (see Positive Image postings)this is a felony. If somebody does something against your will to your person, they have committed a criminal act punishable by more than a year in prison (they will get probation) and fines of more than $1,000 where we(me and this cop I went to school with)live. Your DoJO/Sensai can remove them from the DOJo for initiating unprevoked aggresion against a fellow Student, and you can sue them in civil court. You could even get their names in the paper and humiliate their families by notifying the media when their Bail Hearings are scheduled. You have to file a compliant, swear an arrest warrent and wait for the criminal case to be ajudicated before the civil action if you want most attorneys to take the case on a contingency basis. But if they're on probation when they have to go to civil court you've nailed 'em
Follow the advice! Press charges!

You really have to quit the judo school and press charges right away! IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE for any person to use force against another person who was not threatening their safety!
***** DON'T FAIL TO STAND UP FOR A SOCIETY WHERE PEOPLE DON'T GET
AWAY WITH BEATING UP ON OTHERS!!!!! EVEN IF YOU DON'T CARE YOURSELF,
YOUR FAILURE TO PRESS CHARGES MEANS YOU'D PREFER A SOCIETY WHERE
'MIGHT MAKES RIGHT' IN EVERY AREA! I don't think you have a right to help turn the world into that kind of place!! *****

Yeah I should have made it a little clearer. Oh god no, I didn't cut it off. My hair is about mid-back all the way around. See I agree with the "tail between the legs" thing. I was hiding my long hair behind with the ponytail. So what's the point of growing it out if you're just going to hide it in a tail. I know a lot of guys my age that would kill for this much hair. So no shame in wearing it down.
Is "aging hippie" really bad?

(By O.H.) I gather that is just what he is saying -- he didn't get a haircut but he is now wearing his hair "open" and has cut off a beard. I suppose to each his own...but at 40 I have a relatively large, extensively graying beard and virtually no gray in my hair (which has been growing out for one year now, and is now approaching shoulder length), and I really can't understand why I should fear "looking older" as a result. One friend has said, jokingly, that as my hair gets longer, and "with that big graying beard," I'm going to "look like an old hippie" (hence my handle). But I really don't think looking a bit like an "old hippie" (or an "old mountain man") is necessarily a bad thing; on the contrary others I work with seem to think I shouldn't change a thing as I seem "older and wiser" to them. I really don't think anyone should have to feel pressured into cutting off, or dyeing, gray hair or beard merely because it makes them look "older." As I see things, looking a bit "older" or "more mature" in a natural way ought to be a matter of pride, not shame.

No problem looking like an old hippie. Actually that's really what I am too. I too have had a beard for years, and believe me it's pretty weird getting used to the bare face in the mirror. But I am single and I've had a lot better luck with the ladies without the beard. I guess it just depends on what you like the best. Absolutly nothing wrong with a gray beard. I keep joking with my friends that I'm going through some kind of mid-life crisis. Absolutly nothing wrong with us old hippies either

I have the opposite problem. I'm 46 now and with short hair
I look much younger than 46. So now I'm growing my hair long again to
resume looking my age.
