What should I DO???

I have very thick wavy hair that curls on the end sometimes. It was last year about this time that I decided to finally start my dream of being a long hair. I used to keep it buzzed off very short. I'm sorta frustrated because even after a year my hair isn't long. But the reason why is probably because of maintenance cuts my mom made me get. Since it's summer though and no school I haven't had a hair cut in about 2 1/2 months. When usually every 6 weeks or so my mom would make me get a trim. What sucks though is that my hair sometimes curls at the ends so the length always varies. But my bangs are down to by eyebrows now and some hairs have even been getting in my eyes. The back is starting to get long. But the sides are what I don't like. I can never find anything to do with them. They flip out a lot and stuff. It's really annoying. I have just recently started putting gel in my hair but still I have a few hairs on the sides that flip up or out. Sometimes I can put them behind my ears but some of the hairs aren't long enough. Any advice as what to do till the get longer???

gilee, you're now in the infamous "awkward" stage. As at now, there's nothing you can do about it (except gelling the unruly curls). Remember, never believe the notion that "cutting the ends enhances growth". It generally, doesn't. Except for the case of split ends, which will terminate growth, and thus, by snipping the split ends off, growth will resume. That's all.
The only thing to do now is WAIT. Let your hair grow out without ever cutting it (for at least 6 months), then proceed for a slight trim only if splits are found. Otherwise, leave it. When it's long enough, it will be weighed down by its length. By then, you'll feel less "awkward".
If you like long hair, perseverance is the key :)
Cheers,

The best advice is no more cuts! This just prolongs the process.
Hair only grows about 0.5" per month so cutting it will keep you
in this awkward phase forever. You just need to tough it out until
its long enough to weigh the ends down or you can pull it back into
a ponytail. Hang in there and happy growing! MG
