Pure Coconut Oil in the Hair

Coconut oil in shampoos and conditioners is difficult to find-besides, shampooing strips out my scalp oil. I like the comment made earlier, though, bout how coconut oil in shampoo/conditioner speeds up hair growth. If I found some pure coconut oil, could I rub that into my scalp or water it down to put in my hair? Anybody know where I can get coconut oil?

Here in the UK its easy to find.....the chemist/pharmacy or a good ethnic food store always stock it as the Indian/Asian community use it widely.

When u say "oil", do you mean the actual liquid in the coconut or an oil obtained from the actual pulp of the coconut. If not, I wonder if the actual coconut "milk/liquid" would speed hair growth too???
Somebody try it and tell me please!!!!!

People in India have been using coconut oil for hair for centuries. You can easily find pure coconut oil in any Indian grocery store. I use one by the brand name Parachute. I don't like to apply it after shower as it makes the hair look a little greasy (tiny amounts are fine). Instead I massage a good amount at night and wash it off the next morning.

I wish I lived somewhere that HAD ethnic stores...errr, if I only had my liscense I could drive into Philly and I'd be able to pick some up there. But out where I live there are no minorities to speak of (its a rather dull town). This coconut oil thing might be good, I've been afraid to use Biotin because I didnt want speedier body hair growth, that would have sucked I'm freakin hairy enough.

Thanx for the advice bout Parachute-I just bought some cuz the scented stuff I go (Dabur Amla) made me sick at night (the smell) and now my pillow cases stink too. Natural coconut oil smells much better.
How do u sleep with the coconut oil in your hair at night? Doesn't it get absorbed into your pillow cases?

Yes the pillow does get oily. I usually wrap the pillow with an old towel or T shirt. Also don't apply so much oil that it literally drips.
Pour oil from the bottle into a small cup. Then with the help of fingers first massage onto the scalp. The feeling is really good, especially if you have someone else do it to you ;-) then take some oil in your palms and run apply the oil on the hair (just like you apply hair gel). After you are done you can rub your palms on your hands and legs to get the extra oil off, works sort of like a moisturizer.
I prefer pure coconut oil to the scented ones.
