Vikings with Dreadlocks?

As a dreadlocked girlfriend of a long haired man, and serious hair fan in general, I would like to know if anyone has some info on this -- I have heard that Vikings and other early Europeans may have had dreadlocks (of course they were probably called something different, since the word "dreadlock" originated in Jamaica). But I'd like to know if:
1. this is true?
2. if anyone happens to have some historical/archeological data on this.

Although I'm not entirely sure, I can't recall seeing anything about deadlocks in medieval europe....there is some evidence of dreadlocks in the Indian sub-continent (associated with ascetics) and so it wouldn't be unthinkable that the this style could have drifted westward.
