Afro

I started growing out in may and I am developing an afro, for some time I absolutely rejected the possibility of an afro, I was considering relaxing it, but there ia a guy at college with a very neat afro, like the size of his head, its quite funny. However, its prone to many pranks. I presently gel it down and only in weekends let it go where it wants. I like very much the afro look after seeing that guy, I could relax it after. I am like 8 or 9 months behind him, and his afro is starting to get long... I mean not wider, althought that would be almost impossible. What do you think of afro look? lets say when I get a bit like him, will I still be able to gel it down for formal look, or will I be stuck with a nice looking afro that is very improper for some ocassions. I can't believe I'm typing this but after seeing that afro it doesn't sound that bad.
Does anyone have similar experiences, answers or suggestions? Thank you.

I think the important question here is how do you think an afro looks. You already seem to like it. Go for it. I saw to men in the store with very large Afros last week. Haven't seen them since the 70's. Maybe they are on the way back, as a trend, but that aside, do what you like. Start the trend.

Well, to be honest afro wouldn't be my final look, I want shoulder length straight hair, however, my point was that instead of straightening now and having a terrible awckward stage with no looks, I can walk through it with an afro, let it grow, watch it get fluffy and HUGE, and when, like in the case I mentioned, starts to lay down, then I can start thinking about relaxing it, because, I don't want to stay afro, but its a cool way to go through it. What do you think? Will I be able to gel it down when it gets very big?

Why not just let it do what it is going to do --- So what if it looks big! Let it be -- it will look cool!

Or when it gets long enough, you could pull it back in a ponytail for
a different look.

I always thought big afros looked pretty cool. I've seen some guys wearing them around too. In fact, I think there's a prominant college basketball player that will probably be in the next draft who has a pretty big afro...sideburns and all. I forgot what team I saw him on.
Go for it!
