How long will it take?

Hi!
My name is Ulrich and I live in Berlin.
I am 16 years old, and I love long hair. I haven't cut mine since june, and it's now 3 inches long. Anyway, I would like to let it grow up to the knees or even up to the ankles, but I have no idea about how long I'll have to wait or about... Well, in fact, about anything. Could you help me?
Thanks.
P.S.: Could you send me some pics of other men with such long hair? I would really be thankful if you did so. Bye!

Hi Ulrich:
Itīs nice to hear of such a young man setting such goals for himself. But since the average growth rate of human hair is somewhere around half an inch per month and you should be about 1.8 m tall now, your ultimate goal would be reached in 180 months if you start from scratch.
Now thatīs an extremely frustrating idea - and besides, not many men (not even many women) have hair growth to their knees or ankles in their genes, so whatever you do to make sure you get there, you might simply not make it.
What I suggest is that you set out for more modest goals and celebrate such milestones as you go along and that you are happy to have reached them.
Here are some ideas:
- the day when your ears are completely covered by hair
- the day when your hair is below your chin
- the day when your hair touches your shoulders (by that time you will be easily able to pull it into a ponytail)
- the day when the ends of your hair definitely disappear behind your shoulders and softly brush against your shoulder blades
- the day your hair is below your shoulder blades (if you want to, you can now put it into a decent braid)
- the day youīre approaching waistlength (the length of your hair below your shoulders is now definitely longer than the portion above your shoulders, and this makes your hair look REALLY LONG ALREADY)
- the day it touches your pants when you are sitting in an upright position etc. etc.
You will encounter lots of hostile remarks while you are growing it out. And thatīs why you should stick to small steps of growth and celebrate having achieved them.
I wish you lots of luck, courage, and self-confidence - and keep us informed about your progress!
Michael
