wavy hair

For most my life, my hair has been rather thin and straight. Ive always worn it pretty long, but a few years ago I let it grow and it became wavy and thick-textured. After a year, I got tired of having all that hair and I cut it relatively short. Now, I am trying to regain that thick wavy feel and I have let my hair grow fairly long again (about 3-4 inches all around) which was about the same length that it became wavy. What can I do besides braiding and perm (which I didnt use before to make it wavy) to help it become thicker and wavy again. Is there a certain hairstyle or thickening shampoo I should get?

3-4 inches doesn't sound all that long to me. Are you sure your hair wasn't longer before it got wavy? Also, another factor is the humidity. If you hair has a tendency to curl or wave, it will do it more in humid weather (much to the consternation of people trying to get straight hair). Maybe it was more humid the previous time?
I haven't tried shampoos that claim to make your hair more or less curly or wavy. The only other thing I can think of is to use rollers to style your hair to make it wavy. I've never tried it, but it seems like it would work, and with much shorter hair than you would need to braid it.

Ryan, the only thing that comes to my mind is to try a thick conditioner such as St. Ives' Hair Repair and see if that makes your hair thicker. Also towel dry and air dry rather than using a blow dryer to see if that makes a difference?
