hair on the neck
Posted by The Kid on November 11, 2001 at 15:37:18:
I just got my hair cut for the first time in 14 months the other day-nothing complex....just a 5 minute cut. I went in with all my hair pulled back in a ponytail and said just cut my neck hairs. It looks great back in a ponytail now-people noticed the next day and asked did u get your hair cut?
I figure I might wanna get my neck hairs cut again in a month and that I could buzz it myself with all my hair pulled back using clips and then use 2 mirrors so I could see the back of my head. Has anyone tried this?

Yes, I tried it a long time ago, and messed everything up bad. Don't do it. If you insist on trying, then make sure that you cut AWAY from the hair that you want to keep and never towards it.

Yep, doing your own undercut is definitely hazardous. Learned that
from my own sad experience. I now pay a stylist that I trust very
much and always get a good do. Unless you are very dexterious, its
worth it to have a GOOD professional do it.

When u go to a hairstylist to get the neck fuzz cut, do u also get a trim all over?

Nope. Just like you she puts my long hair out of the way and just
does the undercut. The first two times I just did the short hair
under my ponytail. Since then I've increased my undercut to include
about 1" behind my ears and 1" above my ears (where they connect to my
head) to my temples. My hair is very wavy, poofy and frizzy so this
cut off all the frizzy fringes and leaves the long hair. I think it
looks much neater. I'm not going to cut the undercut any higher and
I am going to let the long hair grow as long as it will! I hope
this helps.
PS If the stylist wants to trim your hair and you don't want it done
just say no.

hey kid!
checked out your site. i'm all about that! good to know there is another believer in here.
what you had done was an undercut. trimming the neck hair about an inch or so so that it look sneat when pulled back. i think this is a great idea particularly if you have a hairy neck line.
i would keep it up if i were you.
blesings!

Hi there!
That's exactly what I do every 2 weeks. I trim my neck hair & sideburns myself, fortunately it never messed up! It's pretty annoying but your ponytail look much neater after the trim.
You can try it yourself, it's quite easy but be VERY CAREFULL!!

I thought it was doable if u can get all the hair out of the way-that's all the hair stylist did when she cut my neck hairs....she just got all my hair out of the way with 2 big hair clips and then cut all the peach fuzz off my neck. She cut it straight, rather than rounded, so that I wouldn't have to go near my ears. Now I just gotta maintain what she started. Thanx for the input!!

I put all my hair under the shower cap. Then it is out of the way and I can trim the neck hairs. I then use the electric shaver to get rid of the fuzz. You can do this yourself. Just be very careful that you get all your long hairs under the shower cap before you start, so you don't cut any of them by mistake.
