Managing/Containing growing hair

I'm looking for some advice: my bangs (which I'm letting grow to match the length of the rest of my hair) are about chin length now. This means they get in my face a lot but they are too short to put in a ponytail. The only solution I have found thus far is to wear a bandana or a hat - but I hate wearing a hat all the time and I find a bandana uncomfortable after a while (also, I don't look that good in a bandana).
So my question is...what can I do to contain my hair? Is my only option hairspray of some other holding substance? Or is there some sort of braiding trick I could use? Or some other trick? I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had to deal with this :) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
BTW this is a really cool site!

I say, "Enjoy your hair and let it fly in your face !!! " Let it fly free!!! Do you have any pics to see its length?

Well I guess I never really considered that option :) Makes it hard when writing tests and driving, though. I will really enjoy letting it fly once it hits mid-back. I might post a pic if I happen to get hold of a digital camera - but it looks kinda scruffy at this point...
Thanks for the reply :)

I agree with John. If you just don't fight it, you will gradually become used to it laying naturally over your face, where it wants to. I have seen some guys comb a "wet look" substance through their hair. This allows individual strands to be clumped together, leaving gaps so you can still see out OK through the hair, while still letting it hang free over your face, creating a real sexy look. When you need a more conservative look, you can slick it all back with gel. See StanleyBey's web site for pictures on how he styles his beautiful long bangs.

An option which I used was to pull what I could back into a ponytail, then tuck the loose/dangling hairs up underneath the pulled-back ones.
It kept the "flyaways" at bay while I went through the awkward stage.
Keep it growin'!
