Reply from a former retail manager.
The company that I worked at for the previous 17 years is extremely
predjudiced and extremely discriminates against men.
MEN WHO WANT LONG HAIR, but according to company policy, that has changed many, many times.
When I started working for Xxxx Department Stores in 1984, my long hair was ok with the home office. However, as time went one, and I progressed thru promotions, I was flat out told that my long hair had to go, or I would.
At the same time, female managers can, and still do, have long hair, any length that they desire, without any negative comments.
Also, one of my previous bosses would "HOP INTO BED", with a female manager, and she - the manager - would be favored by that "boss", and receive promitions around me and - undeservingly- I was passed over for additional promotions, and my former subordinates were becoming my
supervisor's, right azround me and above me.
I think it would be approperiate

to let everyone know the department store this occurred at. This type of activity is totally unethical and wrong. Letting the cat out of the bag (if it still occurrs) and calling attention to the managment problems there would be a good thing. Once the store (and manager) sees it's revenue sliding, it may invoke change.

From: Tonawanda Dude
To: Whom it may concern
NAMR OF COMPANY: AMES DEPARTMENT STORES
2418 MAIN STREET
ROCKY HILL, CT 06067-2598
This is the Northeasts' largest Regional Department Store Chain,.
It is also listed as the number 4 retailer in the country.
(1)-Wal-Mart/(2)-Target/(3)-K-Mart/(4)-Ames.
Would you believe that it is rumored that the Ames CEO received a 7+ million dollar bonus last year, and the the Senior Vice President for Store Operations received a 1+ million dollar bonus.
The "New/Remodel" Division was eliminated, at a cost savings of 2 mil.
I worked as a member of their slave organization, commonly known as
"New/Remodel Division".
I was severanced from their employment this year.
The work hours were unbelievablely long, as a many as 112 hours in some weeks - the only reason that I put up with this, was that I WAS, at the time - a total of 26+ years. I had a wife who spent money as though it grew all around her. I put up with this until my son was grown up, and he moved as far away from both my wife and myself as possible. I am in New York State, he works and lives in the Bay area,
in Berkeley, CA.
My wife and I are separated, and not too far away from a divorce.
I have changed careers and I am now a "Professional (18 wheeler) Truck Diver".
A big change, I sold my house, got separated from from leech of a wife, and amd taking charge of the remaining years of my life. I am 50 years young, and now starting a new career.
NOTE: I WILL NOT BE WRITING MANY ADDITIONAL NOTES ON THIS HYPERBOARD, AS I AM TRAVELING TO TEXAS TO START MY NEW CAREER, AS I HAVE BEEN HIRED BY A COMPANY BASED OUT OF DALLAS, STEVENS TRANSPORT. I START WORKING FOR THEM NEXT WEEK.
